Do you pick up animals caught by homeowners ?

Do you charge differently ?

I do

And I charge my "per animal caught fee"

Willing to but not too many who call take me up on it. Usually if someone is cheap enough to buy a trap and DIY they arent going to pay my fee to pick up.

Fees depend on travel time in those cases.

Definitely gotta charge for time. But to me it's the easiest money

I stop by while doing my rounds, pick up animal , drop trap off next time I drive by

Of course you want me to drive out of my way to get that skunk you are afraid of now that you trapped it ! FULL PRICE LIKE I TRAPPED IT MYSELF

Like the ones with skunks that won't pay but want to know how you would do it with a skunk

" oh skunks are not that bad, just whisper to it and when it starts to look sleeping , just pick up cage, it won't spray, bye!"
He he he!

We do it Joshua's way ( except for getting all smelly by transferring skunks on the tail gate ) and we get a large percentage of our

calls to accept our price.

Full price.... and I usually get the trap for free as the "trapper" is usually anxious to be done with THIS...lol
Had a funny call a few years back....guy called and was very irrate....rude. Aparrantly his dog got sprayed by his catch then he got sprayed....he managed to catch two skunks in one cage. He went on for a few moments searching for sympathy from me. He ask for my price I told him....then he got ruder. I told to call someone else and hung up. He called back a minute later and begged me to come out..... I told him I would charge him double because he caught two skunks....he started to rant again but quickly stopped and agreed. Sad part about some of these cases is animals have been in the cage for days....these two skunks were in poor shape. This guy told me he had caught them a week ago.

The folks I've run into who have accidentally trapped skunks have ranged from concerned for the animal and wanting it released asap, to those who said, "well it was a holiday weekend and so I figured I should wait till Monday to call anyone...."

I have a hard time not coming unglued on the folks who are fishing for the best prices days after the catch was made by their own admission.

I suppose it is as simple for me as it just isn't right for them to be held that long and it also isn't necessary, a vast majority of those who set traps for themselves or have a friend or neighbor do it, have no concept other than I have a problem and they can buy the tool they heard works (live trap, foot trap, etc...) at the local feed store or sporting goods store, or big box retailer.

While we all see folks who are charging and doing things of this sort, the public causes some serious problems and they do create some serious welfare situations that any of us would likely be charged for if we were caught doing the same as a company.

I think even though we don't advertise for them, I had at least 10 skunk calls this year of this type where days had elapsed and they were still looking for the low ball estimate to allow someone to come and release them or euthanize.

Of course if public ignorance was a crime the streets would be pretty empty.....

Just because it's on their property doesn't mean that they wouldn't get the same fine in this state. Maybe that's why we don't have

as many people that turn us down because I will match any state in the union, skinflint for skinflint.

Seems like there are more of these calls to remove non-targetted skunks when home owners try to trap squirrels and chucks. Some companies won't deal with them, but I certainly don't mind them at all, a quick transfer, but charge for a removal, same as usual. Just got half a dozen of these calls in the past few weeks, skunks and a possum. In NY it is not legal for land owners to trap, transport and release, but hardware stores sell a lot of cages for lay people doing just that, not explaining the laws. Many won't chance moving a skunk in the Suburban. You can take advantage of the bonus in $20 in essence in a nice fat one.

I wish we could utilize animals caught doing ADC in michigan but we have to release (according to regs) or dispatch and dispose of entire carcass

Just like with trapping in season we can not sell the meat, wish we could We are so limited on what we can do with game I do understand why but it seems like such a waste. I would think if the Dnr would just require documentation of the animals use it would stop so much waste

In Minnesota it is illegal to transport and release anything. It can be released on site, but not anywhere else.

As far as critters caught by home owner... full price

When I catch a wild animal that is doing damage, I can kill it, release it, take it to a rehabilitator or a wildlife zoo, eat the

meat, sell the fur in season, probably sell the meat, or get a license and keep it as a pet. Why isn't every one of you allowed the

same choices? Our business affects absolutely nothing. We don't affect the number of animals killed by hunters, trapped by trappers,

or the amount of newborns and carry-over of any unprotected species. Arguments to the contrary are just a lot of hot air. Of course,

if you're catching whooping cranes, please cease and desist immediately.

Yeah, and Michigan has a lot better laws than many of the other states.
