How do you guys deal with it? Have a home with 5 sets of shutters - the kind that are screwed right into the house with very little gaps between, and the bats are using s about 1/2 of the shutters.

It seems liek the just go between the slats as I see urine stains and droppings on the slats and not on the side where there is a gap.

Can someone fill me in on how to deal with this kind of issue?

Mike

Take them off, get longer screws, cut 1/2" or 3/4" pvc pipe x 1 1/2" long and use as spacers. Put screw through shutter, through spacer and back into house.
You can also flip the shutters upside down. Not noticable from a distance, but lets the sunlight and rain come in on the bats making it uncomfortable for them.

Or, remove shutters and fill in the gap with cardboard or something, so there's no room for them.

If they are a dark color I put cobra vent mesh behind them.

I was thinking of the 2 methods mentioned here already - thanks guys! 3 sets of shutters are on the front porch and this is why they brought me in, so may have to go with the cobra vent idea, and maybe spacers on the ones up higher

Putting the shutters on upside down also works.

I would sell a bat maintenance program,,,,,I will feed the bats behind you shutters for $30.00 PER YEAR based on a 10 year contract. I will contract with Julio to blow of the sills when he is doing yard maintenance for an additional $3.16 per visit............

Have Hoolio remove the shutters and throw them away.

These days, they are FAKE fake shutters, and have no spaces between the slats...so turning them upside down has no effect. Sealing the edges is the solution.

These were plastic but had spaces between the slats. I uses cobra vent to fill in the back and along the edges.
