In the dog house with the wife lost another hen to a fox.

Going to make dirt hole sets. Who makes a good fox pee?

Thanks

Chuck

Chuck,

Put and take chickens (aka free range)?

Or hutch and coop chickens?

Can't count how many we donated to wildlife as a kid before we built them in. Folks who like to move them around the field I've seen some innovative
designs with things you can pull around with a 4 wheeler or even by hand to the next grazing and pecking area.

I favor eating my chickens myself, so moveable enclosures are appealing.

Also saw a recent design some folks had where they have their coop on a timer, the chickens are trained to enter the coop each night and the door comes
up like a drawbridge on a castle and locks them in till morning.

Pretty slick and they've done much better on keeping their poultry.

If you give a good fox lots of beer, you can make him pee. ( You can make a bad fox pee, too )

I tried free ranging chickens & ducks when we first built our house, we live in the woods, free ranging was only a free meal for the local coyotes, fox & coon, not to mention the owls. now we have two 12 x 12 fenced in areas that are covered with a roof, not a bird lost in ten years.

Yes, my chickens are free ranging. Yes, I live in the woods.

The chickens are our tick control. So, they wouldn't do much help in the chicken coop.

Thanks

Chuck

You can still free range them during day using a mesh electric fence, then put them up at night. Not cheap but does cut losses.
