Got a call for two dead skunks on property. Arrived to find three kits dead with a bite mark on each head. There was a woodchuck hole near by that they were seen running into. Thoughts? Woodchuck didn't like late company?

How big? Could be that the lactating female came down with something and killed them?

If only young on site I'd favor that being their den but that she possibly came down with something and nipped them
herself, not that it couldn't be another species perpetrating.

Would expect they''d be worse if a woodchuck went at them.

Just .02...

If you necropsy the bite area can rule out based on what you find in terms of teeth marks and hemorrhaging.

I would say due to the low smell factor it may have been the Mother that did it. They were not scared it seemed.
