I have cage trapped a few. I use a strong 12 x 12 x 36 in trap. I make a coyote dirt hole set and place the trap with the trigger over the dirt hole. Has worked for me. Badgers do not seem to fight the trap as much as you would think. Biggest problem I have is getting the badger to come back the nest day or two. Sometimes, takes a week or two.

The only bona fide badger job I had, he dug right under the cage. I guess I should have used a two door or perhaps one of our larger,

wider cages.

That's something I thought about. I was going to stake down the cage

We have received pictures of badgers caught in a 9x11x30 inch double door trap and another in a 12x18x39 double door trap. The first was set next to a house where the badger was digging under the house into the basement. They put down tin to cover the holes many times, but the badger kept digging more holes beyond the tin until the trap was placed in the hole. The second trapper put the larger trap over the den in a positive set. Each worked and held up.

I have one of your 9x11 double door trapsbut I just don't see a 40 pound badger fitting in it. Maybe I'm wrong? It's the most stout trap I have though. Also have big cages but they are cheaper, thinner material

Female badgers are not so large 15 pounds ave. Says males may exceed 25 pounds online, weight 13-30. A 25 pound would fit in a 9x11x30. Could go to a 9x11x36 size too, more length. Think either a 9x11x36 or a 12x12x36 would do the trick for badger. Have taken 61 pound beaver in 12x12x36. Surprising how smaller traps will work for even animals that appear large. Everyone told Bare Hunter he was crazy, but he proved that he could repeatedly take armadillos in 18 inch double door traps, 10 in a row without issue, videos too of armadillos actually turning around in them. The badgers we caught in Colorado and California seemed like big coon, 20's.

It's the charging, growling, and all those badger cuss words that make them appear a lot bigger than they really are. Kind of like

your rear view mirror.

I figure with the 9x11 double door I can set it similiar to a coni covering the hole. Just going to need to heavily block the entrance to allow no other way in or out. Then I'll set a baited larger cage near the area. Not sure if I'm doing the job though as this person may have got cold feet I guess.

I would think a standard metal nose cone would work for this as is does for most all other animals, skunks, chucks, coon.

I don't have any yet so I'll have to improvise. I'm trying to build up my inventory but doing it slowly until I know I'm going to have a fair amount of work

You can make a simple wire nose cone out of a variety to wires to direct an animal into the trap, basically joining the cage to the den. Before metal we used to make wooden noes cones. Kinda heavy, but they worked o.k.
