cages and grey foxes
i have caught my far share of reds and greys with coil springs over the years fur trapping but now that i am in the adc world for a living. i have never even tried to catch a fox in a cage trap. i had a call today for a collage that has a family greys that have a den under a concrete slab. the only method of removal would be cages. there has been seven greys seen at once outside the hole.

would you dig a dirt hole and set the cage over the hole?
how would you go about checking these critters?

coil springs would be very nice to use but are not an option in this situation.

if it walks swims or flies im after it

I don't do adc but when I trap em for recreation I put the cage down, throw whatever's on the ground inside on the bottom dirt, grass, etc. then throw a little dry cat or dog food in the back with a little trail leading into the cage. No dirt hole just on the bottom of cage

I'm sorry... I thought this was America

I would surround the hole with cages and see how many I could catch the first night. Do it like California Cager does. Fence 'em in.

If they're like the foxes around here, whatever is left after the 1st night will relocate to a different den, hopefully off campus

and the college will be happy.

Fwiw, Greys are suckers for castor and honey not to mention bacon grease. Don't over think them

cages with bait, you don't need brush or cover. We catch them in plasti-catches set for skumks on occasion.
