I had a first...have seen moles digging and dug em out, even dug a mole out i didnt know was there once when digging hole to set trap...but today seen very fresh mound...moved mound aside and put fingers in the mole tunnel to locate which way the tunnel goes...well fingers touched the mole, he squeaked and i pulled him out of the tunnel...first time in 12 years i have done that

Once I was checking one of Steve A. trap and the mole pushing on the trap, did not get him.

I got one yesterday in a Steve a trap and it must have just arived as it was still very alive. It was in one of the smoothest tunnels I've seen so far.

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

I've seen my mentor do it many times with a special modified trench shovel,(seen below). One thrust at the right angle and flip upward usually netted the mole, which had a surprised look on it's pointed face. lol

Those are eastern moles and they are wet because it rained on us all day. It isn't raining when I snapped the pic but was almost up to that point.

Done that many times over the years. Dig in to open a run for set up and put your fingers in to establish the run direction and there one was. Shoveled many out while burrowing also. My first encounter startled me a bit as I am sure it did the mole.
