Guys from the Midwest. What is the normal amount of moles you would expect to get from a one acre lawn?

Thx

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Lots of variables to consider for that answer.

I caught 63 moles from a job last spring in two connecting town lots in 14 days. Not the norm, but that catch sure threw a monkey wrench into the avg. catch statistics.

Many jobs aren't an acre in size so getting a catch avg. figure is near impossible. Our recent numbers have increased appreciably over the last 5 years compared to the previous 20 years.

Ok catch average or should I say medium so we can throw out the huge cat he's and the single catches, Or is this question like asking how much you charge. ( not trying to be a smart A or rude, there just not another way to word that

Thx

I had one three acre field I removed three from and the problems stopped. I had a lot you could throw a shovel across with two. I recently did a tow acre field with 8

I once caught three moles from a lawn which was about 8 foot X 12 foot. Once caught 33 from the first check on a field that was about 12 acre.

Set a small yard two weeks ago. It had four new mounds and a few mowed over to the back of the yard. I told the owners it looked like one mole. I set three OOS. Three days later I checked and had three moles. That is not common for most of the year but it is "dispersal" time now. When the young of the year get the boot from momma it is hard to estimate.
A couple of years back I took 161 from an 80 acre grass seed field. That is what can happen when the little guys are not worked with for a few years. Last time on the field I caught 20 which was more like a normal amount when the moles are trapped yearly.

I charge based on time, but a flat fee. I look at size of property vs how many traps I will set, allow 5-8 days.

I know some guys charge by mole.

I have heard as low as 40 and as high as 75

Thank you this is what I was looking for. I know there are always exceptions to stuff. But I know there has to be a "normal" amout as I understand they are territorial

Thx again

I have taken a mole headcount and came up with zero moles for fifty miles in any direction and after looking at some of roe's

pictures, I think I've got the perfect number!

An acre can have more variable than a yard. Average yard I'd say 2

Our typical jobs may have 8 to 16 moles taken in 7-10 days. Larger areas 3-4 acres 25 to 40 moles. We have lots of moles here. I catch 30 to 50 moles every year on my property over the spring and summer. They just keep on coming. Our wooded fringe areas in my location is a mole nursery it seems.

I caught 18 moles in 11 days in a dead end run set with one Albano trap facing one direction of travel. The set trap was facing the woods that was being extended by mole traffic near our facility. Some days I caught 2 a day in a morning and an afternoon check.

That gives a lot of info regarding how many connecting runs from different moles that must have converged onto that single run along the way. The run extension work stopped after the 18th mole was caught.

Is there anyone else on this site that doesn't have moles, or am I the only one? ( And please don't feel sorry for me and relocate

any here. I have a mole on my butt and that's all I need )

I guess your the odd man out Paul. See now you really are a unique character.

You probably feel bad that you cant contribute to the topic like one of our little family does. So I suppose you will just have to sit back and see what you are missing out on. I am sure you can take a little vacation and come and visit with some of us for a while to catch a few then you can be able to have a little input on the subject. At least of a limited nature.:)

Paul I have moles but no where near the numbers the others are talking about. most of my jobs I have 1 mole per yard sometimes 2 or 3 but most just one. problem goes away till the next spring or fall season change.
