Hello All,

Got a call today. "We a mother beaver and with 5 little ones under our shed." I asked the woman to describe their tails. Her reply, "They are bushy like a squirrels." My reply " I think you have groundhogs." Her "are they dangerous?"

My question, "How do I trap mommy groundhog and the 5 little groundhogs?

Thanks

Chuck

Don't know what you're using for traps but if cage trapping your best bet would be to catch mamma first. If you trap a kit chances are she's going to hold up for a while or evacuate the shed. The kits should enter fairly easy.

Do you own any double door traps? I block all but two entry points and set up 6-7 comstock traps. Usually get them all in two trips. If using Comstocks I warn the homeowner of the possibility of one getting killed by the door especially if they are a "animal lover". Saves you from getting screamed at:) Baited cages also work, but take longer, and may not catch the mother. Comstock style traps are the way to go IMO.

To clarify the ones that get stuck in the door are following the first one into the trap. Happens around 1 in 100 with young chucks. Never had an adult caught in the door.

Hello,

Yes, I have a few Comstocks. I will try it.

Thanks!
