Thanks for the kind words Rod. Keep killing those yotes.
Most of the yotes I caught had there toes still touching the pan. The pan sets so low in the trap the foot is way in there before the trap fires.

Joe I used a flap disk on a grinder to get that off. Ground it flat and then put my baseplate on. Worked just fine on gray fox.

They use the same pan on the #2,3 and 4. When I did my #2's I trimmed it down some looks like Doug did to.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

Yes I did trim the front of the pan. Made it the same distance to the jaw as it was on the back side.

Your modified trap looks very good.I am concerned bout the size of the #2 as I have some very large yotes in my area.I wish Andy would comment on his use of the #2s.Doug66, do you run all #2s or some of each;2s and 3s?I've held every yote that stepped in my duke 1 3/4 so I guess the 2s would be fine, but always feel better when I'm not near domestics to stake down a #3.Biggest meanest yote I ever caught was in one of my duke 1 3/4 so think I'm worrying over nothing. You guys use steel pan covers on your traps for added kill area?I didn't trap last fall due to injury, but year before I had a lot of very close misses;inside the jaws.Thats very frustrating to see a track right next to the pan,and 2 years ago I had it numerous times.I like the pan size on the #2 but wonder if screen cover would be helpful on the #3.I only get to set about 2 weeks a year with my job and if I miss one that's usually my only shot at it

The 4s I've used held wolves here.
I use screen covers on all mine works great 3s and4s just make sure to file to get enough tension , so it will not fire making set.

red mt,
How much filing are you doing to get that pan tension? I was playing with the #3 Montgomery tonight with a stiff screen from Marty smith and it was firing before I could push the loose jaw level.

I figured I would ask before I file anything

I believe Red puts 3 triangle file strokes on upper side of “dog slope” right where it turns and goes vertical....that’s what he told me anyways and I did to some of mine. I was surprised how little it takes

Nycoyote, Btomlin gotter right.
It takes very little for 3 lbs you will find the stiffer the screen more tension needed. just give it a stroke at a time until you get what you want that's how we all done it.
We all do it a bit different on traps hope it works well for ya .

I like to file a nite latch into mine. I will say they are some fast little traps. The only problem I have with them is I don't own enough of them! They keep the most consistent pan tension of all the dogless traps I own. majority of mine are 2.5 -3 lbs .I want to be abel to catch any foxes that work my sets lol and stinkers

I got some #2s in a trade and some of them won't set. Even with the pan all the way down the jaw won't clear. Looks like I'm going to have to file quite a bit off. I was planning on bending the jaw tips up and this has a tendency to suck the jaws in slightly so this will only compound the issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

It sounds like the pan assembly needs to be loosened up where it attached to the frame so it can slide forward a tad or the frame bent up where the pan assembly attaches to move the dog toward the center of the trap. I'm new at the dogless also so I could be completely wrong btw.

I wouldn't do anything until Red Mt. posts though.......
