Hello All,

I got a call for raccoons and found gray squirrels too. They tried a competitor and he squirted fox urine in the squirrel den to drive the gray squirrels out.

Can fox urine be used for this? or is it why the client called me? (i.e. the fox urine didn't work?)

Chuck

Chuck, calling him a competitor is being really generous! Urine can have just the opposite effect of what you're trying to do. Unless

the gray squirrels were peed on by a fox, I have no idea why they would leave the den. I use rabbit urine to help catch cottontails.

Does it work? Probably not but I've got a gallon and it needs to get used up. I would probably catch just as many bunnies using fox

urine. I think the whole idea of using urine is kind of a joke.

Yep.... it's a joke regarding repellent. However, it is a great ATTRACTANT. Check out the fur trapping supply catalogs.... they sell fox urine by the gallons, and fur trappers buy it like crazy... for all animals. Fox urine attracts rabbits and every other critter imaginable. Common to catch rabbits in fox sets with urine applied to the area. It's a great cover scent for fox trapping, but it DOES attract everything. People have a tendency to "imagine" that animals react like humans "think" they should react.... rarely happens. "But the rabbits should KNOW that is coyote pee!" Yeah, right.

So what do they do when the attic now reeks like fox urine? Sell the insulation job?

Did a bat job at a large church a few weeks ago..... I must say of all the goofy stuff I've seen over the past 25 years, this is the first for this:

I've had lots of customers tell me coyote pee will keep raccoons out of an attic. I usually use coil stock or hardware cloth to keep them out, never tried pee. It may work though, because having to pee has kept me out of a few attics, so you never know.

doesn't work on the squirrels, and I use fox pee to catch coon in cages. But I will say I have also used fox gland lure and pee on coon sows that had pups and it made them move out, of course a rag with my arm pit smell on it also works in that case.LOL

Ron, I think that a general case can be made for most mammal females with young that anything she percieves as a threat might make her move the litter. Maybe an alternate den site or just to the other side of the attic/shed/crawlspace. There is a lot of raccoon eviction fluid sold - it's just another tool for certain situations. How much are your armpit rags? Send me 2 autographed please.

If you'll watch verrry closely, you'll see Wile E. Coyote whiz on all the traps he sets for Roadrunner. See how well it works for him?
