Is there anything you guys do to help the lawns rebound after you cut out a chunk of sod?

Once I have set the traps and start checking the trap, I have a bucket of black dirt. Once I remove the trap I put black dirt in the hole pushing it in the runs, and in the hole, IF the sod is not that good I just put some grass seed on top of the black dirt. I get the black dirt from ACE Hardware for $1.99 cents a bag of 40 lbs. I want the lawn to look better than when I started. JMO.

I suggest referring the work to a lawn care company in exchange for mole referrals. I sold lawn rolling, aeration and over seeding packages but it became too labor and time intensive so I stopped doing it. Now I only do a lawn roll if the entire lawn is heaved up and then set traps on the new activity the following day or two. As far as patching I wouldn't dare introduce a different type of grass seed into someone's lawn, especially Zoysia or St. Augustine, unless they approved the seed in writing. If the lawn allows you to cut a plug then lay it to the side and replace it when the trap is pulled and it should recover just fine with just water.

I cut out the sod piece as one unit, set my traps and replace the sod after setting. I am referring to using the Albano trap line traps. I remove the cut out piece of sod carefully for checking the traps then reposition it afterwards in the same position of removal. I don't remove the sod in most cases in using O/S traps.

The sod remains moist and in contact with the ground during the set up and trap maintenance so it rarely dries out. If you don't cut the sod deep enough initially to keep some soil attached to the root system then you may get some die off in some cut out areas since the roots will dry and the grass will die.

As stated most sod cut out areas will re root and establish in a few weeks time in most cases with no noticeable difference.

I just try to re-cover it the best I can and stomp it down to make it look respectable. On occassion I may use a little grasseed.
