Ok guys. I think you know I'm just starting out and I said I would have a lot of questions. I have had many people ask about moles. What trap is the one to use. And I know this next question is the one everyone skirts but I'm asking anyway Do you charge per animal at your normal rate or less or do you charge a flat fee. Not asking actual $ amount but HOW is it charged compared to other animals. Thx in advance

I don't do moles. I hate the little buggers. Not that I can't catch them, but I'd prefer ladder work.
When I did moles, I used the No-Mol trap. Seemed to work best for me.
I did a two week service at a flat rate, that way I wasn't worried about customers questioning me on how many I did or didn't catch. If no catch in two weeks, but still seeing damage, I'd go an extra week.

We always do a flat rate on mole work. 7-10 days is a basic residential program time frame for us. That is generally more then enough time to allow for local mole occupation captures to take place if you have done a good set up and practice trap re location as needed while on site for trap maintenance.

Base job pricing starts at $350.00 for us and goes up depending upon the size of the job. We do most in the $400.00> $500.00 range as usually these clients have considerable activity both new and old so time on site is increased due to the extra effort needed to spend deciphering the run network and set up as needed.

Picking your shots so to speak as to where you set will determine how quickly you will get a good clean out. Mental mapping of mole runs both obvious and discreet ones are skills that take time to develop. Its not unlike fur trapping. You need to know your target animal, habits and use good methods to catch a high percentage of these animals.

We do many jobs each year way above the quoted norm pricing when these jobs require a considerable amount of travel time and extra on site time is needed as well.

I am new to moles, but I am charging a flat rate. From what I gather, mole numbers may be small, but that doesnt mean they arent causing big $ in damage.

I am charging what others would consider ridiculously cheap, but I am a new mole trapper and really want the experience. I am running 8 day programs with 4 checks

We offer both a flat rate and as an addition to our insect service. Flat rate is for a set time and no warranty. The addition is trapping as needed.

I would start out with Steve A. Trap line product traps to start with, the large mole traps. NOT gopher traps.
Also have a few Out of Site traps on hand.

My prices are the same just like TR said above. It cost just as much to drive to a mole job as it does to a squirrel job. Just what works for me.

Flat rate, depending on mileage to site and duration of trapping program. 1 week for small properties with minimal activity. 2 weeks for larger properties (or smaller areas with very heavy activity). Set heavy on initial set-up. Hammer them quick. First check in a day or two, then checks spaced out depending on activity. I have the duration, then 4 different rates depending on mileage to site. Took me 15 years to figure out what works (for me) on mole pricing. As Jim stated.... takes the same amount of gas and time whether I catch one mole per trip or 10.

Did a job about 8 years ago for a guy in a high-end lake shore subdivision. There was a company from 40 miles away (St. Louis) working the area (neighboring properties) charging $100 per mole... no set-up fees or trip fees. This was 10 miles from home, and on a route I drive constantly. Gave him my pricing info (which also includes info on mole biology) and he hired me instantly. Back then it was about $300 for a 2 week program at that distance from home. It was a 3-acre lawn, which I think they cut by hand with a scissors (just kidding, maybe). He had spent a couple grand over a 3 year period on grub control (Tru-Green) with ZERO reduction in mole damage (of course). I caught 21 moles in the first 3 days. That would have been $2100 from the STL company. Word spread fast about my service, and I now take care of 90% of all the lakefront properties there.

Second mole call of the year today. Snow just melted off the lawn, and the lady freaked out. I think this mole was using a GPS, judging by that rectangular pattern.

Caught the first one about 3 minutes after setting. She was thrilled. (The lady, not the mole!)
