Hello

Got a call today a woman said she had baby raccoons.

Isn't to early?

Thanks

Chuck

Chuck, that was my first thought. In Wisconsin the main part of the raccoon breeding season is probably right now because February

was unseasonably cold. The gestation period for raccoon is 63 days so even if you had some warm days in the middle of January you

probably shouldn't be hearing baby raccoons yet, but go and find out. And if there's a litter, let us know.

Hello All,
Went on the call the home is located in Lexington, Mass. The homeowner told me that they had sold the home to a developer. The developer was going to tear the home down and build a Mc Mansion.

My reply: Why do you need me to remove the raccoon and clean the attic if you are selling the home in 5 days?

So, I didn't check for babies. The place definitely had raccoons.

People use the terms "babies" and "a family" even when it isn't, have had a ton of "skunk families" and "babies" this winter that were clearly not.

Not to say animals can't get bred outside of normal season however in harsh winters Darwin doesn't favor those.

It's a long way from Sandown NH to Lexington Ma. Probably 50 miles and an hours time each way.

Do you guys really go that far for raccoons?

I just picked up a coon from about an hour away. The bugger tore part of the door of the track and ate most of my trap alert setup too.

Wow, you guys need more raccoons. I will bet that we have taken over 50 raccoons from the subdivision that's right across the street

in the last half a dozen years. Here's a question for you. What do you guys do in the vehicle when you have a long trip? Radio, CDs,

eat, talk on the phone, drink a lot of adult beverages, what?

Yup. I cover a large area, mostly rural. I don't charge a set up / per animal fee for animals in house. Flat rate, hit'em hard, seal it up. Usually come out ahead. Sometimes there is an extra animal or two which means an addl. trip, but sometimes the evidence is there and no animal. Same price either way.
I do charge set up / per animal for vagrants like groundhogs, or skunks and coons grubbing. Just charge enough to cover your costs if you only catch one. Multiples of 3 or more will get a slight discount....or not.
I can also sometimes get on interstate for most of that, where as if it was all back roads it would be different.
Gotta go where the money is or where the work is if they're willing to pay. The worst part is, if I have three stops in one day, one is 35 west, the other 27 east and the third 55 miles south. Those days suck.

No fone or radio or cd player, just listen to the engine, and when starting from a stop, the u-joints squeeking.

Paul please send some raccoons my way!! In the last 5 years I
Could count on my hands the number of coon calls I have gotten.
And on one hand the number that have actually been inside a structure!!
I guess our coons like trees better so far . Hopefully it goes the other way
Soon lol

I start looking for pups around the 10th of March here in my area of South Jersey. Most will start showing up in April. Although last week I had a coon acting like she was ready to drop, staying put in one spot for long time frames and any noise that was out of the norm would come to the ceiling above the noise. then go back. didn't want anything to do with a trap or even bait set alone. and did not leave at night. Long story short She didn't have young but acted like it. BUT I was on full alert for young.
Every one as HD stated thinks there is babies!!!! all the time. Many of us that have been in this stuff for a long time have seen coon born early in homes and late in homes. Does not happen a lot per say but enough that I am always looking so I do not get jammed up. My earliest that I can remember pups was around the 10th of March thus the reason that I start to look for them, and have had pups with closed eye in late Sept that I can remember. I do not adhere to the only time frame they can be born thing in the absolute, like some do. If a sow coon has a changed cycle, for what ever reason, and comes in heat earlier or later and a boar finds her he is going to do the nasty. If she drops her young in a controlled environment temperature and moisture wise, like an attic the young stand a good chance of making it, and those females may continue with that same cycle. I will say that I think most early born coon the sow will be in a wall or somewhere where the homes heat reaches them.
Of course I was first to say way back in the late 80's that Grey squirrels giving birth in attics may have young, any time of the year. And was told then that I was wrong, so I may be wrong here also LOL

I can't believe that none of you guys pop a CD into the dashboard and sing along with your favorite tunes. ( You guys should

hear me hit those high notes on the Roy Orbison songs. Or maybe not )

Kasey, I sent a herd of raccoons up this morning. They should hit Green Bay around suppertime and be up to you by the weekend.

I go where I need to go until I start getting closer calls. Lexington, Mass. is the outer edge of my territory but, I just did a skunk job in Winchester, Mass. today. I get a lot of calls from Winchester, Mass. They don't complain, are grateful and will gladly pull out the check book. I have done groundhog jobs in Shrewsbury, Mass. and beaver jobs in Marlboro, Mass. If it pays and I have the time I am gone.

Lots of variables in nature when it comes to anticipating birthing time frames for coon or other wildlife. But mid to late March to first of April are the general birthing times for the masses in SW Pa. in my work experience.
