I have some in the attic doing damage the last few days. Have removed one in the yard and limbed another. Two cage traps one on the roof right next to the hole that was made, and one on the ground have seen no action. Both have a few sunflower seeds in them on the pan. They have not touched any of them. What bait can I use to get them in there? The sunflower seeds are not working.

We competed a job today where our competitors were trying to catch a gray squirrel from under a deck for a month. We use squirrel

paste and we get ours from On Target but I'm sure that they all work about the same. Also caught a raccoon that another competitor

couldn't catch. There has been a lot of talk on here about ADC guys "being in a rut" with their methods and lures. I'm glad that I'm

in a rut. It ain't broke so I ain't going to fix it.

Ok thanks for the input. Got any homemade recipes from around the house stuff that have had success?

Can you put the trap in the attic? Peanutbutter on a cracker works well for me. Yuo might need something under the trap to protect the floor.
Check out "Winter Squirrels" down the page.

previously capture/released animals are a ADC mans biggest nightmare,,,..I sold a guy a trap because it was the only way to keep raccoons out of the attic.......... mounted it to the roof and has not had a problem for three years........go figure.......

Being in "a rut" means you're stuck in a tire track. Being in "the rut" means you're ready to breed. If you're stuck in a tire track

AND ready to breed, that's called a Vinky Dinky.

First, what type of squirrels are you dealing with? Reds are notorious for being finicky and a bit trap shy. Gray's on the other hand seem to ignore the trap if you've got the bait they want inside.

Second, look at the type of traps your using. If they are raccoon sized Havahart traps and you catch the squirrels in them, play the lottery while your luck is good. I never had success with any of the Havahart squirrel traps even through they are the better size due to how the work. Make sure your using a spring loaded type of trap if you're going to be using bait like Tomahawk or Safeguard.

Third, look at what the squirrels are eating then use that as a bait. If you're got some walnuts use them behind the treadle so the squirrel has to climb over it to get to them. I've had success with salted peanuts in the shell, black walnuts, and beech nuts for grays and fox squirrels. I've never had success with just the peanuts for reds nor have I had success on any squirrel species with just sunflower seeds.

Anytime I have trouble with squirrels not going for the nut based baits I switch to fruit. Melons, apples and even bananas can work

I have two squirrel traps out. One is a two door trap and the other is a one way in trap. Both wire cage style with the door closing as they step on the pan. Both were baited with sunflower seeds. One is on the roof and one is on the ground. Been out for 3 days now. Climbed up last night and the one on the roof was empty. Rebaited and added some peanut butter on bread and some more seeds. Have took out a few by other means but the culprits are still in the attic. These are gray squirrels i am dealing with.

Whenever the bait is all gone, the first thing I look for is signs of a mouse, chippie, or some other lightweight.
