Without pictures of the traps you are trying to value, your post is a waste of time.

Those traps were made in several different locations, which affects the value.

A person needs a lot more information to even give an approximate value.

I bought a #5 ATC in excellent condition at a convention last summer for $675 I would say a 15 is about the same value. A nice ATC #6 will be $2000.00 to $2500.00

Dig you dont know if hes looking at ATCs or not
anything older than an ATC should be worth more money but he probably doesn't know what an ATC is
let alone an OC, a PAT date,
thats why I say without pictures hes wasting everybody's time.

Great post though!

Thanks for the replies, had a fellow approach me about getting these to decorate his man cave, just trying to help him out. Any suggestions where I can direct him to find these would be appreciated, appeared to be a serious buyer. Thanks Don

Lot of Mink, you are correct, I do not know the a thing about the different Newhouse traps. From my conversation with this fellow I don't think it does to him either. He is looking for a couple good clean unaltered traps to hang on the wall for decoration purposes, he is not a trap collector. Hope this helps you answer my question. Thanks Don

Stretcher don,

Is this guy looking specifically for Newhouse traps?

If he is just looking for a couple of big bear traps to hang on the wall for decoration, he might want to consider buying reproductions.

Jim River Supply out of Vermillion, South DAKOTA makes some bear traps that are very nice reproductions (in my opinion). They make 2 different sizes equivalent to a # 15 and a # 6. Raised lettering on the pan. Heavy short chain. They can be aged to make them look old. You could get a pair of these traps to his door for under $1,000.00 total.

There are a couple other repros being made. Duke Trap Company makes one - not as nice as the Jim River traps and the cut out D in the middle of the pan looks kinda dorky. But the trap is priced right.

There are other bear traps that were made in the 1970s and 1980s that look good and are reasonably priced. Herters would be one of those.

Lots of options for you/him to consider since he isn't a trap collector.

Good Luck.

Yes he did say he only wanted newhouse and not a reproduction model. Don

They may be made by "the Newhouse people " and they may have the Newhouse name on them, but in my opinion, these newly made traps would be considered "reproductions".

I have been thinking of buying one of their bear traps. I think it would neat to watch my trap being made. Do they let you do that?

You might be able to watch your trap being assembled, but I rather doubt you can watch the individual parts being made, unless you've got a lot of time on your hands.

Time isn't a problem. I would be willing to spend a week there to see a quality American made trap built.

I don't doubt that but its the exception to the rule. I have not seen one that cheap in years. I bought a newhouse zero at the last national for $2.50 and sold it for $320.00 but that doesn't mean it will ever happen again...
