I need recommendations for a cage trap for otter. I've never had to trap otter with live traps before. Thanks

Standard raccoon size is fine, double door swim through ideal and long enough to contain a long critter.
Wire triggers allow for swim through sets.

Hello,

I use Comstock double door beaver traps. They work well.

In the late 90's, N.Y. state had an otter restoration program, catch, relocate and release, but we all used small footholds. Many of the animals had no damage when the traps were set properly, checked regularly and everything went right, but with all of the things that can and did go wrong, there was a whole range of injuries, from almost nothing to severe. At that time there were no swim through traps though I had very vague ideas to build one. At the end of the program a fur trapper did catch 3 in a 5 foot long land set cage, 2 one day and 1 the next, which to me showed great promise, a long pan trap, gravity doors. How we all wished for an alternative to designed to work in water 20 years ago.
