Best advice I have is trap them outside the attic next to the entry point. Well that goes for gray squirrels. Flyers inside works just fine.

Most experienced ADC operators dont trap attics.

We never trap squirrels in attics or any larger animal for that matter. Too many obstacles/problems to overcome for check times, access etc. Take the time and learn to determine external access points and set/exclude them accordingly. You still have to access the roof line/sofffit or dormer corners etc. for repairs when completed so why dont you spend the time initially to determine the root of the problem with regards to structural access.

X2.

Can't even remember the last time I set a squirrel trap in an attic. Maybe 20 years ago. Squirrels are neophobic (like rats) and will avoid "new" things for a week or so inside their den or domain. Bait and lure can look good and smell good, but they will typically ignore it for quite some time when inside the structure. Setting near the access points is very effective. I think they are more responsive to external traps as they forage for food OUTSIDE, so they generally have immediate interest in the bait.

I would say that pertains to raccoons to a certain extent as well. Mrs. raccoon will look at that cage on the roof and avoid it for a

while. But take that same cage and hide it in the bushes and she says, "Look what I found!"

I will go a step further, that squirrel knows everything about that attic. she knows the sounds and smells of the folks who live below. dances with the music on the radio. she has them patterned right down to the time the people wake up, that is why she gets them up an hour earlier, The reason she is there is because the safety factor. As soon as a strange person goes into the attic, she knows it. even if she was out at the time when she comes back in, the stink is there. Then there is this thing! that wasn't there an hour ago. with food in it. so safety factor is gone and something new, like Ron said most likely she will avoid strange human activity. Outside the squirrels are use to change. plus the person can change methods fast without hassles when they see they need to.

This is why I don't go in an attic until I have done an exterior inspection. If no sign of animal entry is present I go into the attic to confirm its mice. Other wise no attic inspection until animals are removed. Makes the removal process 75 percent faster in my experience.

it is not a stupid question if you do not know the answer

If you must, which most of us don't, as you can see.....they love peanut butter smeared on a strip of sponge thats been threaded onto a 110 trigger.
Often getting 2 in 1 trap.
