How many of you use them? And in what ways? What breeds?

I use Chesapeake bays to pull my canoe on portages, pull my sled for trapline in the snow. Then if course my buddy during duck season. When hounds are running if a coon hits deep water my chessie bail in to help retrieve the coon. Hes my tank and and do all.

While I've hunted with nearly all the breeds, ( Including Chessies ) I'm thinking that you're looking for a whole lot lighter dog

like a Yorkshire terrier. Probably not the best example, but I'm sure a Yorkie sized dog could find almost anything in an attic

without making holes in the drywall.

When I posted this I had ADC work in mind , in residential and commercial areas specifically . However the topic is open for discussion. Chesapeake bay's are great dogs , tank is great word to describe them.

If I had one for this line of work would be a JR. Though I've seen all manner of breeds including mutts make great dogs for the work and the customer relations too! smile

1/3 Rentals we have in ohio are checked with a beagle every month, usually by the time the dogs check the apartment again the persons got em again. Bedbugs have ruined apartments in big cities

All men are created equal, some are just tougher, they're called trappers.

Bushwhack, so you just use the beagles to eliminate some guess work ? They can cue in right away on the buildings with bedbugs? I primarily deal with vertebrates! I have a patter dale terrier mixed with beagle she is about 8 months. Trying to find some training tips, as well as some ideas for using her in our industry. Like when would you send your dog up in an attic, as opposed to just setting traps? Or would it mainly be for dead animal retrieval ? Ive heard of some guys using them for geese round ups. At this point the customers are getting the most out of her

we have the dog go around and detect them, it lets the handler know which apartments it thinks has bugs, then we send in the more costly team that confirms then heat treats the apartment with all the tenants stuff inside. The dogs are mainly for the first confirmation so we dont have to send our guys in to check every apartment. The dogs are usually pretty accurate but there is some occasional misreadings. We only own apartments in the city so we dont do much outside bugs.

This year I have sold 3 people beagles to use for detecting bed bugs.

The one guy has contracts with hospitals and doctors offices and uses the beagles to locate bed bugs that fall off people in the lobbys. He picks up the individual bugs, once the dog locates them.

We have a number of pest control outfits that depend on their beagles for bed bug jobs. Who knew? My first two dogs were beagles and

I was proud as a peacock when I trained the female to hunt down and retrieve pheasants. I'm sure she would have been deadly on bed

buds, even if they flushed!

A beagle is the perfect dog. Not too many years of my life have passed that didn't have a beagle in it.

it is not a stupid question if you do not know the answer

Yer a wise man, Travis. A better-looking, sweeter dog does not exist. And ohhh boy, do they love to work!

I have two JRTs that love finding squirrels in homes or sniffing out dead animals.

You use your terriers when a squirrel is in the living space ? I used my girl on her 1st job the other day. A lady had a house that was overgrown and she trimmed the trees, took MR. Opossums' easy access and he died in the attic , or he was just that dumb and couldn't find his way out of the huge entry point. It was an easy find but got to try her out in an attic space and see how she reacted to everything. Another question , about dogs? What do you all use for flea prevention? I deal with a lot of fleas in my area
