So I got a call last week about a family of beaver in a private lake taking down ornamental trees in this customers gardens. I started the job and in the first check caught 4 beaver, the following check I caught one more, but haven't caught anything since. So now this customer is losing trees and I believe it's one last beaver. I've been using 330s the problem is these beavers have been trapped before, I've had 330 knocked over my guiding sticks pulled out of the way, pretty much everything I've tried my body grips have been avoided so any advice on this?

Snares, Snares, Snares and Footholds.Leave the conis in place.Otherwise it may spook.Put nothing past an educated beaver.

I know a beaver or two, because I've seen a beaver or two

I feel your pain. Looks like we are close to freeze up as some have been walking on the ice in places. Some warmer coming for a few days though. If you can find the front door and snare under the ice it usually works. Even if the snare gets knocked down they don't spook, but will keep traveling the run until you catch them.

Once the ice comes on taking him out becomes exponentially easier.

Ice is a beaver trappers best friend, a platform from which to work, anywhere and everywhere you want to go. You can see anything, even better at night with a light with no wind, no reflection. Hard to tell where the water starts sometimes. Love it except if it is covered by 3 or 4 feet of snow. A couple of inches of clear ice is the nuts. Snow ice is o.k. too but the clear ice with bubble trails... Have used the chainsaw to take out some pretty big chunks. Brought the baby limbing chainsaw but once, "didn't cut it" no pun intended. Next time it was the 372 Husky which really threw some chips. Just have to wear some rain gear, gonna get wet.

Well guys I got him, this one is a hoss of a beaver too, got him on a #3 Montgomery going for a front foot catch, took one of his sticks peeled off the bark and dabbed a little castor up high to really pull em in. If I knew catching beav with footholds was this easy I would have been using this method much sooner

Don't get carried away, nadunbar. I have been getting away with murder on beaver for twenty-some years but I know that eventually I

will meet my match. I blame my good luck on the fact that if I have a smart beaver, it is I who made him that way and not another

trapper. This allows me to try something else that usually works. Never the less, congratulations on your beaver. We all know how you

feel and are basking in your success. Good work!
