Well if no one else wants to take a stab at it I will. And that's cause I read it in a book and got no reason yet to think otherwise.
Woodstream took over Animal Trap Co. in 1966. Still made Newhouse till 1980.
I think it was 76 when toothed traps were outlawed.

That's what I get from the read but if cascade or the nhousecatrapper would chime in we would get the gospel on it.

I agree with DiggerDale, Animal Trap Company of America was changed to Woodstream Corporation in 1966. P.S. I read it too. Greg

ok thanks guys, I read that also LOL but I didn't know they continued making Newhouse traps after changeover. so they probably made the Newhouse 114s till they were illegal in 76?

Old Sewell joined the OC commune which ran a hardware business, they let him open a trap shop like the one he had before he got religion. By 1900 there were a few dozen companies making and selling traps including the Animal Trap Company of America out of Illinois. Between 1920 and 1938 most went broke or were sold out to the OC including the ATC. The OC combines all the trap companies under the name ATC. In 1966 the OC split off and sold the trap business to concentrate on the silverware side calling it Oneida Community again. Woodstream which was the buyerand which made camping equipment and hunting items later came under pressure from the non-hunting crowd and since more people bought Coleman coolers and sleeping bags than traps Woodstream dumped all their trap lines except Havaheart in the 1980s. Bear Traps were made as collectables well into the 1970s and probably right up to the end.

And there was NEVER a time when toothed traps in general became illegal, if fact they are still legal under certain circumstances. That was not the reason that the manufacture of toothed traps has mainly ceased.

Okay, Jim.... I would probably be more correct in saying that Woodstream gave in to the treehuggers in 1976 and sawed the teeth off the #6 Newhouses. I still feel like I am breaking the law when setting #14 jumps but I don't see anything in the Minnesota regulations to that effect.... Would sure like to hear your take on it though. Dale
