Can I just put in a one way door then seal the hole? Or should I trap it then seal?

They're rodents.

Trap and then seal. If you seal first, the squirrel WILL chew another way in or out.

I have to laugh when I am told about a squirrel chews a hole in good wood, a one way door is place and then a day later hole sealed. and the customer said they chewed a hole right next to the old one the next day. I never thought they would do that.

Flyers don't chew. Reds and Greys do.

A one way door trap, not just a one way escape door.

it is not a stupid question if you do not know the answer

That's not true down here in Ga. Flyers aren't AS bad, but they love to make a perfectly round hole. They can and often will chew back in when not properly trapped and removed. Though most of the time I see flyers it is because they are taking advantage of poor construction, they will help their way in by chewing. Run up on a colony in a house that's been there a while, and don't think they won't wear some teeth out to get back in.

To answer the original question, one way doors normally work well. Make sure you have a cage on the end and make sure you know all points of entry/exit. Nothing like have a cage over a hole and having them use a different exit/entry.

Jeremy beat me to it. I once run drip edge all the way around just to have a flier drill through gable rake fascia to get back in.

I think I like our flyers better! All we need is a bat cone after sealing the place.

You know, Ido remember a job where I had a chew in after seal up. I thought a red had done it but flyers were caught in the door/hopper I placed I figured a red had started the opening and left, but now you have me wondering.

No better way to explain the need for effective exclusion.
