I ain't no good cat trapper by any means...seriously, but guide as close to the pan as possible without anything inside the jaws, and if you don't think you have a big, wide pan, use the shingle trick. Also don't leave places around the trap to step that can be used to get to the destination, put lumpy rocks, etc.

stablize your trap well and block/guide enough to invite the animals foot to step upon the pan area with a natural gait or stepping movement. If too much or to little is used it may cause them to jump over or side step. Dont give them anything that would allow stepping upon objects or rest upon objects on the sides of the walk thru exposed trap area.

Plenty of tension when using shingle pan covers and 4 coils for cat trapping. In extreme freeze/thaw , suggest longsprings. Even though the frame and bottom of springs are frozen , they still fire , unlike the slower than molasses closing with coils(if at all) in them conditions.

The link I provided you in the pm is a good one.

Cut out 2 pieces of shingle to the desired size, staple them together on all sides but one, and slip over the pan kind of like a sock.

it is easier to just get some big hair pins at wal mart, and slide them on with that. I will try and get a pic for you.

ct,
how long does it take you to find a hundred of those sticks bent in the exact shape of the trap? hehe

great setup, just goes to show that cat trapping isn't rocket science.......

learn the behavior and set on location and sign.

k.miller, start looking in the area you are in and I bet you would be amazed at how many are bent that way.

Bruce, I am not pulling your leg, This is how we set fast sets, if you want to set 50-60 sets in a day you dont have time to cover every one of them. and remakes are lots easier as well.

it isnt an attraction but it looks like a rock for them to step on, not just the pan.

from what i understand cats take short strides..and for it to continue on without jumping, it sees the shingle and it looks like a gravel path and it steps there.

Thanks, I will give it a try. Though I have caught a few my confidence level is low. Maybe I'm trying to hard.
