This ditch is the only place that has any water in this area. A hundred yard up from this spot and a hundred yards down from this spot is complety dry in the ditch. There is no dam, so I figure wherever these beavers came from, there place dried up and they went on the move to find a new spot. They probably came upon this mudhole and stopped.... until it would dry up.

Anyway, here's what the ditch looks like. Not much sign, just a peeled stick here and there. The water is about four to six feet wide. There is about ten inches of water and three feet of mud.

I again used a body grip at a choke point. I positioned the trap under a dive stick and I stabilized the trap with other sticks. I had to stand on that log beside the set to keep from sinking in the bottomless mud - made for a fun time - lol.

This was set up on Wed. Yesteday, the trap was untouched. The beavers were shy to be out Wed night.

Today I had this....

I reckon with these shallow water beavers, it takes more time for them to get out and move around once there's been a disturbance in their area. I had another place like that last week, but I had three other places that I had no problem with first night catches. I dunno - the more I do this, the less I'm convinced I know.

Hmmm, seems ive heard that before somewhere????? lol.

If you would quit stomping around like King Kong you wouldn't be skeering them poor beaver to death, lol. Need to learn how to float like a butterfly, lol.

Funny how things happen. I was talking a forester buddy of mine just this afternoon. He was telling me that he had found some fresh beaver sign earlier this week indicating that some beaver were living in a mud hole.

If I put my wife inside a high fence will her rack get bigger ?

Boss...would be glad to send you some of this rain we are having...everyday last week and calling for 1-2 inches more this weekend...have not seen the sun since I started setting fox traps. What a muddy mess....

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Yaa Pappy them lil mud holes can really suprise a guy not only as to how deep the mudd is but as to how many beaver can hold up in one lil wet spot. I took 12 out of a spot that might a been a lil bigger than your pic. they had bank dens everywhere.

I dont suffer from Insanity i enjoy every minute of it.

Seeing some unusal things on ditches this year. Moving up some that they have not used before. The ones still in the big water have really been coming to lure sets. Jtrapper, us big, old, boys have to stomp some. LOL
