I'm getting some buckets(boxes) ready to go for coons and I wondered if I needed to prep the traps any. I've heard not to bother if it's only for coons.

coons dont care about scent , and thats what every coon trapper wil tell you unless the coon is of course educated ,and/or has been caught in the past . As far as trap preparation i sray paint mine flat black or brown so i dont get rust on my hands and plus kinda blends in on my line.

Be sure they are good and CLEAN of any oil or paint wont stick.
I use the krylon camo tan with brown streaks to break it up.

You can Dye them. However do NOT wax them. Wax will make a Body grip trap a dangerous trap to set in a Hurry. LOL. especially if it gets a bit of water on it. The wax will become slick, and you will probably enter the 220 club by the end of the first week. LOL> Spray Paint is probably your best option.

I've speed dipped my 110s this year, still drying so no performance report. Last year I did logwood, held up fine.

My brother is using Rust-Oleum on all his traps this year, seems to be holding up great!
He had a beaver in a #3, didn't even scratch the paint.

--Good luck!!

I personally like the paint. It will last for a couple of years and IMHO makes them a tad quicker. DON'T WAX!!!
