Since when do they remove Raccoon for homeowners? I had a lady call me to see if I would come remove a raccoon that she had trapped. I said yes, but there is a fee and she said she would get back to me. She then says that city wildlife control would come out for free. Since when do they do that?

When I worked with the dog catcher we would go out and catch "feral" dogs for free, but we never caught anything other than dogs.

Semper,

It is based on the municipality and if she is telling the truth. A simple phone call to your shelter will answer your question. If the shelter is capturing wildlife even to take it to her door and release it, the individual performing the service must have a hunting license and fur taker permit as no fee is permitted to be charged. If they are charging a fee, the agency must have the CNWAC license and the operator must have the CNWACO certification when working on private property.

WCT,
That is what I thought. I have not called anyone about it but if they do not meet the requirements you mentioned, what agency do they get referred to? DNR?

Since she said City Wildlife Control, maybe that is not the same as dog catcher. I had a city contract to remove skunks at no cost to the residents.

Gumby,

The county wildlife officer is the person to report any licensing or certification issues to.

In Ohio, Governmental officials may conduct nuisance wildlife work on governmental properties controlled by the entity for which they are employed with no additional licensing. For example a township worker could do groundhogs at the township cemetery but not at the state park. A state employee could take care of the state park but not the national park. You get the idea.

However, if they perform services on any other property than that controlled by their agency, they are required to abide by the same licensing rules as everyone else

Some folks don't know their agencies... It could be usda wildlife services. Ws used to do this type of work in reno and Vegas. Might be worth checking into.
