Flew out to the Trapline cabin to check on things. All looked good except we lost the big strip upriver. Second time in 7 years, this time I don't think they be fixing it without some serious heavy equipment.

That was a beautiful grass strip.
Coming in on final approach below my place
Even got to see a few critters

First moose season opener in 20 years without my ol hunting partner Jake at my side. Went at it solo this trip but Jake was with me all the way. Got the Mothership up and running, took her north to the south side of the Brooks Range. Go a couple brothers coming up next week to go moose hunting. Kind of poor weather but better than sitting in the house.

Found a neat little bluff with some beaver ponds below and looked pretty moosey to me. River was high and expect to be a little more challenging when the water drops and it cools off.

Spotted a few moose and a bear from the bluff and called that good enough for a camp. Bought a new 12x12 Arctic Oven with a vestibule, sure liked that. Put my wood stove and cots in and called it home.

Awesome pictures, greatly enjoy following this thread. I can only hope to make it up to Alaska sometime in my lifetime.

Thanks for sharing!

Your gear is always top notch AK.

Is that a can of sardines hanging on the back wire of that bear fence? Make sure you pee on the other side of the wire so the ground is nice and damp in front of the can. I love that big vista shot, nice composition. It looks like you have it all there, good view-point, old burn, winding river with open banks, beaver ponds, and Jake looking out for you.

Good hunting

That looks like a great spot for glassing, I see you are running an airboat, ever run a jet boat for a comparision? I have had an intrest in airboats but they are rare in this part of the country, everything is jet or prop.
I'm headed out to do some scouting soon, got a hard frost this morning.

Thanks guys, good times. NH.. The batteries in the electric fence seem to last quite awhile. Should have changed them this trip. Could touch it without peeing my pants, new batteries will give you quite a wake up.
Usually change them every season, cheap insurance.
Bushman... I spend quite a bit on gear and usually buy the best I can afford or a little more. Ya git what ya pay for. The ground is pretty wet around the whole area so grounding the fence won't be a problem.
Tundra300.. I've run most of the interior boats and have quite a few myself. The airboat has it's place and will go where no others will and where most people shouldn't even attempt to go. They are fast, loud and very expensive to run but couldn't be without one. I know guys who could easily run a jet boat up this river to where I am camped now but in a week they will have wrecked them in the shallow rocky river.

Made it back from moose camp with a moose in the boat. Little slow hunting but the country was beautiful. Real happy to come around the last bend in the river and see my camp still intact. We only saw 2 bulls and one cow in 7 days.
First load was pretty heavy and the river had dropped quite a bit. The old Mothership did well and got us up through the shallows.

Did lots of calling, hiking and fishing. The Grayling fishing was unbelievable.
Ended up calling a 56" bull from about 3 miles away and knocking him down 1/2 mile from camp. Happy bunch of hunters.

Ate like kings, fresh organic moose and cold water Arctic Grayling. Life is good.

The new Arctic Oven was awesome and slept 4 comfortably on cots. Great trip overall and almost glad to only get one moose due to the river dropping.

Made it in and out safely with no major mishaps. Sent my brother and Ross back to North Dakota with the moose in a pickup and little brother and I went down to the Chatanika for a little walk about. Ended up calling in a little 44" bull and my brother harvested his first moose. Great season with good people, filled a few freezers for several families and now we get ready for trapping season.

Congrats on the Moose. Sounded like it, but not sure. Do you guys split the meat up between all of you when someone kills a Moose, or any other game? Just curious, that is how we do it in our hunting party when we get Whitetail deer, or Bear. Nice looking Moose. So very jealous. Good luck on more.
