What are the dangers associated with digging/drying poke roots? I know its poisonous but what will happen? I know to ise rubber gloves as well. How small shpuld u cut the roots up to prevent molding?

you'll be ok digging it without gloves....just be sure to wash your hands before eating or drinking just to be safe........I've dug it for years without gloves.


depends on the size of the root chazz,,,,,,,,,i'll usually cut the root up into 3 inch chunks or so with a hatchet......some of those get ridiculously huge.......15-20 lbs green and bigger sometimes.

the main thing is proper air circulation.........poke takes a long time to dry and can mold on ya if it don't get air .

Does anyone buy it? I pulled a bunch tonight. The ground is so wet from all the rain we've had that even some of the big stuff pulled up. I just left it laying in a pile.
