What is this? Top looks like goldenseal but the root is not yellow bit whitish

Goldenseal has more separation between the leafs sections.

That looks like a young maple plant. Their root stock is red like that

That plant has nothing to do with maple as far as I know. It grows in big patches in my area. I have never tried to find out what it was. I have seen it grown on whole hill sides in the woods. It likes real dark woods and loamy soil in my area. The only place I ever see it around here is in the hill country off of the wabash river bottoms. I have never seen the plant any place north of Evansville, but, it may grow in lots of other [places.

Yes it grew in a huge patch on hillside. Dark woods . Polly 1 acre patch

yupper don...........I see it here too.....def likes that dark woods loamy soil type of areas.............not sure what it is either. grows in huge patches though

That's cranesbill. I've dug close to 50# so far this year, Been getting $4.00 pd dry..

Cranesbill contains a powerful ingredient called tannin. Tannin is responsible for soothing the digestive tract, and it is useful in preventing and treating frequent diarrhea. Cranesbill has been used for centuries as a way to treat such problems

It looks a little like cranes bill, but to the trained eye, It is very different from cranes bill.
