I just put out my first batch of fox/yote sets on saturday. I was wondering how often I should relure them.

I am sure this one has been beat to death here, I usually relure mine after 1wk, but I am also concerned if that set is on location if it has not caught something within the first 3 nights.

You will get a ton of different answers on this one. I personally dont relure or rebait until a catch is made. I do however add urine to the set 4-5 days. Ive been up to my sets after rains, snows, freezing temps and I can still smell my lures and baits so I definitely know a fox and coyote can smell them. I have had sets that I did nothing to after setting them and caught coyotes 2 weeks later after all kinds of weather hit the set.

Depends on your temperature and humidity. Cold and dry both reduce the level of scent. Rain will wash unprotected lures away.

Once a week would probably be plenty. Too much lure will keep coyotes away. You are better off with a little lure at the set, and a loud call lure just up the prevailing wind 10-20' away.

I use about a lima bean size gob on the end of a butter knife around the lip of the hole or at point of interest on my flatsets. I have bait in the hole too sometimes as well. I have had set sites the following spring completely dug out so I think that lure and bait smells last alot longer than we think.

I relure about every 2 weeks or when ever I have time.

I posted this before the crash of '06 but think it's worth saying again.

An Old Timer told me once that he didn't expect to make a catch on a yote till the set was at least one week old. And when possible he would check the set from his truck with bino's.
