This cubby with feathers in it has worked pretty well for me. Hope it helps. I will try to post more tomorrow. Another set for coons that ive used is with a piece of tin foil wrapped around the pan and placed in about an inch or two of water.

If you have any deer hunting friends that use deer feeders with corn place sets near them I got dozens of pics all year round with my game cam they seem to love corn (if its legal in your state)

Big Elk is right..Here in WV using any part of an animal {ex. feathers or fur } above ground is illeagal.
Be sure to check your state regs..what is leagal in some places may be illeagal where you are.
That goes for snare specs also.

In Iowa you can't have exposed bait within twenty feet of a trap or snare.

From the Iowa DNR website:

Exposed Bait
You cannot set or maintain any foothold or bodygripping
trap or snare within 20 feet of exposed bait on
land anywhere in the state, or over water in the following
areas:

a) Mississippi River corridor - Allamakee, Clayton,
Dubuque, Jackson, Clinton, Scott, Muscatine, Louisa,
Des Moines and Lee counties.
b) Missouri River corridor - Those portions of
Woodbury, Monona, Harrison, Pottawattamie, Mills and
Fremont counties west of Interstate 29.
c) Des Moines River corridor- Boone, Dallas, Polk,
Marion, Mahaska, Wapello and Van Buren counties.

"Exposed bait" means meat or viscera of any
animal, bird, fish, amphibian or reptile with or without
skin, hide or feathers that is visible to soaring birds.

Dirthole with a block of wood as backing.

Charred Block Scent Post.

This is a simply Cubby I make for coon. It will take a fair amount as well. LOL.

A double Dirthole . Hole in the wood is baited with (just Mice) and there is a mouse hole in the ground made with a stake. if trying to catch coyotes though I would recomend a BIGGER piece of wood with a hole in it, just so the yote doesn't carry it off. LOL.

Another Double Dirthole I made for Grey Fox. If setting for Coyote, open the backing up a little more so you are not crowding the coyote.

The dirtmound Set. It isn't finished as you can see I havn't covered the pan, and I have not lured the set, but you get the general Idea.

This is another Scent Post/Curiosity type set. The trap is set on a property where the owner is a Meat cutter. He has a compost pile with a bunch of bones and Heads, inards, etc. So the skull is NOT something they are not used to seeing. However, if you are in an area that is pretty open, these skulls seem to work pretty good as an Eye catcher. LOL.

And this one is similar to a Step down dirthole, however I started with a Hole that the coyotes had already dug. LOL. The only thing I would tell you to do differently with a set like this is pull the trap back a few more inches so that when the yote steps down into the upper level of the stepdown, it is stepping on the pan. Don't give it time to "dance" and think about it. I missed the yote the first time it came to this set, but then I moved the trap back a bit because the coyote told me it wasn't gonna step where I put it. LOL. and I got it next time by. LOL.

Hope that helps.

Wellll...... I don't use anything from home, I generally use a dealers Lure. I use lures from Fox Hollow, Lenons, Dobbins, Cavens, Hawbacker and a couple more. But, you could catch a bunch of mice at the local farm and chop them up and give it a try.

OK,
Dirthole on a bank next to a row of greenbriers

Dirt hole on an old log road

Walk through on the same log road-pic doesn't show the piece of wood on the other side of the bed.

The walk through produced this the next morning.

Hope the photos post ok...................

Here are some pics of my sets I took this morning for cat trapper. I tried to show you a close up and a set location. The white specs on the set is anti freeze I had just put on the set. I had a lot frozen up set this morning after the rain.

You can see I missed a coyote in this pic
