Bulldoze! That's the only way to make real oyster stew. The folks that put other garbage like taters and onions in it should be keel-hauled.

A shot or tobasco is a must in mine though.

What kind of oysters do you guys use? Obviously not the greatest selection around here. Our nearest fresh seafood market is fifty miles away. If they have them at the local grocery store here, the things are about the size of your fist. Kinda creepy. eek

We love all kinds of oysters when we eat out, but can't seem to buy any locally.

By the way, your oyster stew sounds wonderful!

Sautee up some chopped bacon, onions, and garlic. I'll stand for my keelhauling Czecher.

Only Chesapeake Bay oysters for me.

Hate to admit it as a native of Alabama but the very best oysters I've enjoyed come from Florida. Apalachicola bay to be exact.

All the above and use 1/2 and 1/2. Don't slack off the butter. And don't forget a tiny little pinch of saffron.

Tabasco gets anywhere near it and somebody gets hurt.

I would eat it Joemac.... I lived in VA and have to agree with the Chessie oyster statement. Used to go down the the warf in DC with my brother and eat fresh shucked oysters followed by an oyster po-boy. There was a place in St Michaels we would go and I always got half shells and a pot of steamed clams. On the Chessie is where I fell in love with oyster stew...I never heard of someone putting those things in it. grin

No Newt. Was as good an oyster stew as I ever ate in a restaurant too.
I forgot about adding clams as well.
