These are not as big as 2poors hibred grinners. But they sure are prettier. Got my weasel line out. It is pretty slow because we have no snow. Looked at a lot of traps today and only got 3. In a good year I should have had 30. There might not be as many weasels as other years. They could also be afraid to move as they are white and there isn't any snow. They are a target for all predators.

This set I have used for 15 years, and it has been very good to me. The weasels really like a little milk with their beaver. They hardly notice the 1 1/2 longspring.

Now maybe everyone can truly understand why I don't have a decent knife in my kitchen. From the picture looks like Arnie doesn't have a decent one in his shed either.
Must be time for another order to Caven.

The "life with Arnie" stories are great and based on truth...for the most part. I guess it doesn't matter if your milkjug cuts are rough cause you're still catching weasels.

I suspect the OLD Jack Pine Savage is busy chasing more Weasels. Most likely on a 5 mile hike looking for Bobcat sign !

The Weasel in the jug appears to be a male. They are quite a bit larger then the female shortail.

Yes those are flea's on the Weasel, quite common ! I often freeze my catch in a zip-loc for several days before I skin the little devils. Seems to be enough to kill the flea's !

Arnie usually runs about 50 Weasel set's.

And I will have you know he cheats !! \:\) He convinced me to wait until November 17 to set Weasel traps. Looks to me like he started on the 16th. \:\(

Never trust a Weasel trapper that chooses to live in the Jack Pines.

Yeah 2poor, I guess I lied.
The best bait I have found is beaver.
Yes, those are fleas. I have a good camera, but if it comes home in pieces, there will be another "Life with Arnie" Story.
I will try and take more pictures this afternoon. Might even take Kathy along. Be lucky to look at 5 traps before she has to come home. I have out over 50 sets, but 2poor, I will never tell you the exact number.

Well if you dont drink milk you better dig up some $$ for lumber for weasel boxes...I would go around on garbage recycle days and pick up all the plastic milk jugs you want. Granted some might smell a little sour but weasels dont mind as long as you got a chunk of bvr hanging in there!

I can't understand how those fleas can survive. I was catching weasels last winter when it was 20 below. The weasels were frozen hard as rocks, but those fleas were still moving around.

I do not leave the jugs or the boxes out in the woods. The bears up here would destroy them. I take everything in, clean it up and put it away until the next weasel season.

Now that is how it is suppose to be done Arnie !

No matter how crappy my day has been, when I find one of them sticking out of the box everything suddenly is better !

Another great picture !

Well, Arnie, I see you have figured outr how to download pictures, great. I thought no one was slower than me. So do you have any culverts that are dry this year? Most of ours have water in them this year.

I caught a nice big weasel in a 220 last week that is still grey on the back-transition phase. I was really suprised that they weren't white yet. I put it in the freezer and will see if anyone is interested in it to mount.

The culverts are full of water, and the swamps aren't froze yet, and we still don't have any snow. Put all this together and it makes it tough going for a weasel trapper. I may have a bit of a struggle to make it to 100 this year.
I picked up 5 nice big males today, and the count is up to 9. I got 7 in the milk jugs, 2 in the boxes.
I don't think there are the weasels this year that there has been in the past. But with no snow, they might not be moving. I wouldn't want to move either if I was an all white weasel and the trees were full of owls.

I bet they know how vulnerable they are ! Give them a little snow to play in and I bet they start to cooperate.

Interesting that we are getting the weasel thread stsrted early this year. I put out about 10 sets the last couple days, I'm finding that about 75% of my culverts are not settable yet because they have water in them. Well, we will see what happens.

Hey Arnie
Got my son Garrity interested in trapping weasels after reading about your weasel sets. Good to see your mug on Trapperman.

FIrst of all the yellow tint on the weasels is when they lay up too long, they get a yellowish color, especially in the back quarters from urine or their castor. It is nothing to worry about, it doesn't seem to change the price I get for them.

Say Len, you had better get the Bravo cranked up, or Garrity will out trap you, especially if he starts weasel trapping. THose little creatures get in your blood. We still don't have any snow in Northern Minnesota. Makes it tough to see sign as the weasels don't move, although I did pick up 10 yesterday.
