Thanks guys. Probably pull the line next week. Got some frieght to haul out for an outfitter, ice fishing and adventuring to due yet this spring after the Fling..
Temple.. most sleds will level the trail behind you if you have the tongue mounted close to the bottom of the sled. The sleds that mount the tongue high in front or on the sides will actually dig your whoops deeper pushing the snow out of the low spots. Come pick the Tundra up tonight and take her for a ride..

Nice string of wolves! Surprised not a single black in the bunch.

Came home tonight way earlier than I'd have liked too. Lost a wheel on the back of the WT and figured I'd better head for the truck before I had to walk further than I'd like.
The weather was unreal today and wolves came out of the wood work. I'll start at the beginning.. Pulled the groomer in to prepare for hauling a bunch of hay and fuel for a outfitter. He wasn't ready and backed out.
Got to the cabin and headed up to Pee Post Pass. Guess what.. Wolf #12 in AK#9 and the 4th wolf in the pass this season. Unreal. Downfall of it was, the SMG pack came up and dispatched it for me.

Big male and haven't got it on the scale yet. Reset both traps and we'll see what happens. Spent most of the time pulling gear. Pulled 3 dozen #9's from their snowy or icy tombs. Left the snares at the bait and the moose kill. The 3 wolves that made the kill stomped all over the big rock where I caught the female earlier but didn't fire the #9 with 10 inches of snow over it. They weren't falling for the snares on their trails into the kill either.
The Iowa Ridge pack made an assault on Dry Creek this week. Haven't seen them come down that chute for many years. Yesterday they came down above the cabin. Looked to be 10 strong. Went up on the ridge to see if I could find them. I found a bit of sign.

Pulled those traps one day to soon.

Good times and weather just didn't have another wheel to replace the one I broke.

Got the ATA Fur Auction and Fling this weekend. Hope to see some of you there.

Bummer on the dead wolf, hope they didn't tear it up too much for you. Have to get Al on the sewing machine again. It looks like you will have plenty of wolves left to mess around with next year! Glad you didn't get stranded out there.

Congrats on #12! When you pull gear, it always happens that way! Hopefully they come play next season.
At least the pack didn't eat up the wolf for you! I remember one of the biggest dogs my Dad ever trapped, got eaten up by the same pack it came from! It was completely eaten up on one side of its body.
On some big wide open country like that it might be worth it to follow the tracks a few miles.
Man I usually throw in some extra wheels and bolts into my action packer full of gear, my load is usually heavier then I want. When you travel by yourself, all the stuff you got, is what you got. Its better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

What a great series of posts AK. Your photos really set the scene. That wolf looks like it took a beating. I just finished up a book by a guy who was a bio for the Yukon government who headed up their wolf control program. Their research showed number one mortality of Yukon wolves was death by other wolves. Followed by Dave ( Yukon 254 )

Nice looking country there howler! Some big tracks amongst the wolves there. I agree with Nunamiut, In some of that big open terrain I would bet you could get a few by tracking them.

Came home this morn a sad trapper. Closed up the line for the season. Followed the SMG pack for 3 miles right up to the Pass from the top. Talk about some anticipation and excitement as I followed their tracks. Missed the entire pack in both traps by inches but didn't seem educate them. Next season and they showed me several more posts to set.

Pulled 90 gallons of gas, some propane, a Bravo and the groomer out on the first trip.

Trail was awesome. Hauled out 36 55 pound bales of hay.
Once the work was done, it was time to cover some country and look for some wolves and antler. Didn't find either but did manage to see some pretty nice country and a few Dall rams.

Got one #9 left to chop out of about a foot and a half of overflow next week and then the work is done. Play time. Going to get out and do some exploring for next season and get ready for spring bear season. Been a great season, learned a lot and we had a real Alaskan winter like we used to.
