Well brother and sister Trappers, here we are again, another year. Me and this Apple still aren't really getting along very well but here goes. Started out this spring doing a little bear baiting out around the trapline where we thinned out some of the population but not the right bear. We had a very rude cabin raiding bear in the valley this year that did unbelievable damage to many cabins. I will deal with him this spring personally.

Covered a lot of country picking up some caribou sheds and looking for moose sheds

Game Cameras sure were fun this year. Lot of pics but still have a learning curve.

I got lucky and had very little damage. Did loose a little skin off the back of the cabin, the screen out of the big window and one Coors light.
Spent a lot of time making Alaskan #9's and some stretchers since we didn't have any snow and the river took a while to freeze.

I finally made it out on the line. The Tanana crossing was the best I've ever seen. The rest wasn't optimum running conditions. Only had to pull the chainsaw out 4 times in 40 miles to the cabin so that was nice. There is about 2 inches of snow at best and made for some rough travels on machine and rider. Lots of overflow this year. Put a couple hundred miles on the Tundra without any problems other than tipping it over more times than I care to count.
Found this caribou kill from this fall. Pretty cool find but a lot of work to get it out.

The heavy rains this summer left the trails with some speed bumps.

Did get some gear out. Put a few lynx cubbies out for good measure, a few coyote sets, hung a couple dozen wolf snares and couple dozen #9 pee post set. Good wolf sign, cut a few wolverine tracks and very little marten and lynx sign.

Saw lots of groceries along the way so that was good. Didn't take many pics of them but seen some good numbers of moose and caribou.

I was lucky enough to pick up a 22# female wolverine on a 2 day soak in a MB 750 catch-all set. Good thing I came by when I did. I was going to take a few pics of her but looked at her in the binos from about 60 yards and could not see any foot under the jaw of the trap. I took her from there with the .22 mag. When she fell out of the tree, there was just part of her pad caught in the corner of the jaws just out of the off-set. She must have just got caught. Changed out the trap and re-set . This is only the second female wolverine I've taken out there. They sure are small compared to 35-40# males.

Put some new bags a scabbards on the Tundra which worked out well.

Well good luck and be safe to all of you.

Glad to see you are back in the saddle.

The bear problem/damage seems to be increasing state wide. Many of us are making the jump to solar bear fences. Bear boards used to work well, but these determined bears are boring through siding and jumping through windows on a regular basis. Time to change tactics.

Stay safe and Merry Christmas.

Great pics, love the trail cam pics at the camp. How do you navigate the washouts on your trail-make a quick log crossing or find a better place to cross?

Lots of action around the cabin, your trails always put up a good challenge!

Hey guys, I did a quick trip to the cabin on Thursday morn after working night shift. Heard we had a bad winter storm coming in Thursday night so I decided to spend it at the cabin verses the house. Power outage out there is as simple as fueling the little Honda generator. Pretty nice ride out in the calm before the storm. I actually got a couple inches of snow out there last week. Lots of groceries in the flats.

Made it to the cabin without incident, got a fire going, unloaded the sled, grabbed the water jugs and on up the line. We must have had some pretty good winds out there. Many of my traps were under drifts. I didn't even bother working them over with the on coming storm. I caught and lost a wolverine in a cubby with a Duke #3 cs. Held him pretty well until his toe gave way.
On up the trail, I knew I held something judging by the pacing coyote tracks in the trail. Sure enough, 1st wolf of the season waiting in a #9 pee post. Beautiful 112# gray male.

Quickly dispatched him and went on up to Pee Post Pass. Missed a few wolves on the way and found one of the #9's tripped. Ran into these 13 bull moose who were thankful for the trapper and allowed me a few pics.
