I used to trap a lot of turtles. I used floating traps made from 4" pvc pipe and chicken wire.

that turtle net law is stupid there needs to be some changes the nets are alot more efective than the crap they want you to use and alot more portable these laws are the reason all the ponds and lakes are full of sliders and snappers nobody wants to tote around a huge trap shoot were i fish and trotline you have to thin the turtles out for a couple days before you start catching fish

Well I actually know of a guy here that uses nets. I assumed he was following the law and figured it was legal when I purchased it.

i think a size limit would be more afective than a trap law

How much is the commercial license? Even if it was $200 it wouldn't take long to sell that many turtles.

Richard they took our turtle nets 8 or 10 years ago.

at one time we trapped and sold a lot of snappers, not any more

turtles, female turtles got worth something

I tried to get the commercial fishermen here to fight it but I never could get anyone together on it

it's no trouble to catch a ton of turtles a week here in western Kentucky. back in the 1980's, bob deck a fur buyer from Hopkinsville bought thousands of turtles every spring. they were 50 cents a pound back then. i'd like to know how many turtles I sold the man.

ask bud walker or jim blue about him

to catch turtles in a turtle net just stake both ends, leave part of the net out of the water and bait with any fresh fish like carp or cat, chicken works also. every farm pond is good for 6 or 7 turtles, swamps same thing but more turtles. we got millions of them. I caught a big king softshell on a line yesterday, it was a biggun.

when they outlawed turtle nets here I sold an old boy in Tennessee my nets for 35 bucks apiece, half of what I thought they were worth, I had 67 of them, thanks Kentucky department of fish and wildlife

after trapping season starting in mid march a man could turtle trap right thru the spring winds before catfishing picked up and the wind layed where a man could fish, make good money too

then they took our nets and it messed up the natural order of things for me. now my sons will never learn it, or the places that their dad knows to do it.

i'd like to take pen to some paper and take about 6 or 7 grand away from the law makers in Frankfort and see how they like it. I bet it would look a bit different to them then.

turtles were never in trouble here

Richard now you done went and got me mad this morning, I was going to have a nice morning running up some lines drinking coffee

IN MY LIFETIME, we have lost here in kentucky

Turtle nets
Hackleback sturgeon fishing on the Mississippi river, there are millions of them.
we have unreasonable size limits on paddlefish on the lakes, we keep about ten percent of the ones we catch
we've had waters closed to fishing just because no one fishes them.
now the fishermen can not gut buffalo or other fish other then at the market, health codes, buffalo ruin fast with the guts in them, they don't care about that part of it.
now they are after catfish

if the dollar becomes worthless, how am I suppost to feed all these people around here without equipment, they will be hungry in a week
