How do you position your 220 triggers for coon in trails?

I like to use an "L" shape with the trigger on the bottom.

I do just as ADC stated, except i off set as far as I can to one side. I feel as It gives a little larger open view to the animal and tends to cut down on incidentals, rabbits squirels etc. Seems to work for me. \:\)

If you set it off to the side you'll end up catching a lot of coon around the hip and they won't be dead. Set it in the middle for neck catches.

I have not came to that conclusion as of yet. 26 in 220s so far and not one hip caught. Rite square behind the head or head and front feet. Large coon bump the triggers no problem. Not the "only" way by any means. Just my preference during the early season to keep traps unplugged with incidentals. \:\)

adamj, you have big coon up there and your techmique might work 90 % of the time. I've trail set for coon for a long time and have tried the method your using and would catch way too many coon that were still alive. Many were pretty big coon.

I understand the reasoning. It just didn't work for me and I prefer other methods for reducing incidentals.

I place my trigger wires In the midle of the trap opening I like to twist them togeather.
I agree with lobo on coon getting to far through the trap with the wires off to the side or the L shap set up.Now If your dog has been filed and will go off with the slighest touch then your good to go. But lots of factory traps with out adjustment will allow the trigger wires to travel quite away,s before firing and that will give you hip catches and self mutilation.

I've been twisting the trigger wires together and putting them directly in the MIDDLE of the opening for years now.

I'll never do it any other way again !:)

With the wires in an Inverted V or any other position, I used to get snapped & empty traps..... No more with the wires twisted together in the center of the opening "PERIOD"
