Is there anywhere to buy them or are people making them...? Also, what mods should I do to my 1.5s for fox and coon?

A 1.5 really doesn't NEED mods to hold coon and fox. If you are bored, knock yourself out. The only thing I think should be done is add a mid chain swivel.

If you don't want to center locate just cut a piece of 1/4" rod the length of the trap frame and weld on.

I made my own jig......... I get 20 ft lengths of...1/4 in "pencil" rod from work
I put the bend in the middle for my nail swivels.....makes a good set up.......
The advantage of the center swiveling for me is .....no foot sliding in the jaws to the opposite end of the chain...........
When I went to #2 montana's I tried to use them stock and save the time of modifing them.......every catch I got had foot damage from paw sliding in the jaws till I base plated with the rod bases........they had new music wire springs on also which I thought would eliminate the sliding....I was surprised that the paws still slid with the music wire springs......after the base plates all paws were nice.....MHO as always

Buy the rod at Lowes or Home Depot or scrap yard and make them with a vise and hammer or better yet, a piece of pipe that just slides over the rod and vise grips--to make the bends.

No vise? then it'll take 2 pieces of pipe..........cut the rod to length first-about 3/4" longer than the base-- length could need adjusted.

Those nail swivels look pretty sweet! Fencing staple and a nut welded together and a nail for a j-hook?

If you set a 1.5 for fox and you have coyotes in the area, more than likely a coyote will destroy your trap. On the other hand if there are no coyotes to worry about than a stock 1.5 should hold any fox you catch. To fully understand the need for modifying traps a person needs to know what possible animals might be caught other than the targeted animal. Before coyote moved into the eastern half of the country the victor square jaw #2 was THE fox trap. Try setting that trap in coyote country and you will end up with broken traps and no fur. I myself am a perinoid type of guy and would rather go a little over broad and modify all my K-9 traps and sleep a little better knowing my traps and the animal that stepped into it will be there when I check them in the morning. To answer your question, install better chain, better swivels and laminate and base plate. Aside from greater piece of mind you will also be increasing the traps value. Its a win win.
