The one and only mink I've ever caught to date was in a cage. 15"x15"x36" with a carp head that sat for 2 weeks in freezing temps. Set on a bank about 15' above the water line. Had it set for coons. Good thing I got a light trigger on that trap. Can't say that's how to go about doing it, but it worked in that instance. You'll think a Banshee was in that trap when they get to screaming.

I may try some box traps next year for mink...seems interesting. I wonder if putting vegetation against the cage wire and building a hole type appeal near the waters edge would be more conducive to catching mink?

Only problem would be the raccoons screwing with the fish bait...

Always stake a mink cage for coon issues. Just a little grass on top to keep the birds from seeing the bait and your good to go.

often wondered about this myself. water levels always seem to fluctuate too much on the river to make any type of water set.

seeing how small a 110 box can be, guess the cage could be fairly small itself.

see duke has a 7x7x24 model. too small? would think the length would be more of an issue than the opening.

A wooden box would work well. I have heard of people using the spray proof skunk traps for mink. I tried this year, but I didn't get results. I caught 1 in Nevada, but it was with a number 1 long. I think Vinke uses a cage trap on a float for mink.

We catch plenty every year targeted them a little more this year due more dry canals,
I prefer Schroeders 7x9 cage mainly for its heavy weighted door that allows for setting on steep banks, plus we use the same cage for marten on running poles. When useing bigger cages you have to make sure the doors are wired in with 1x1.

MT, I understand your set up. The bad thing is having to carry all those traps around that is a bummer but...you have to do what you have to do.

On a good note I am guessing the competition is reduced due to the work involved with handling those traps.
