Yep, put them inside a cage trap.

Not a good idea to use snaps on greys, they end up wearing them. The springs aren't strong enough to be lethal with any hit other than top dead center and even then it's fifty/fifty DRT or splitting headache.

I do this for a living and squirrels are my bread and butter.

Don't know how big your squirrels are but I don't think our big reds here would succumb to a rat trap.

DONT use them for Greys, Blacks, or Fox squirrels. Even red (pine) squirrels are a little iffy with them. The spring just isn't strong enough to be lethal.

If you intend on useing snap traps for any species besides flying squirrels you better drill and anchor the wooden base or tether it or you will most likely loose a few in the process.

This is a better question asked on the ADC forum.

If a snap trap is all you own, I have found by drilling a small hole and inserting a screw to keep the trap's kill bar striking the neck of the squirrel you can target them. Please use discretion when using this set up (keep it in attics and crawl spaces). Also by bending the trigger and adding a small piece of screen wire and peanut butter you will also catch mice, they will climb then hang on the trigger firing the trap.

I had a problem with flying squirrels in my attic. I took a tall shoe box(boot), cut a 2inch hole in the end. Placed a rat trap w/yellow pad just at the opening. I used some peanut butter in the back in a small can. I took out 5 in about 3 days. When they quit coming, found the hole, sealed/repaired. None after. All of themcaught across the neck/shoulders, died in about 10-15 seconds.

I've done it using boxes. I took the metal boxes from ark welding stick, a rat trap fits perfectly inside. I just used peanut butter, and it worked fine. They had to come in from the front, I don't know how it would work if they got caught sideways.

You cold cut a piec of angle iron and screw it on the front. It would work better than the metal jaw hitting the wood. RBG makes smaller round body grips that would probably work awesome too.
