As volatile as the fur market is.....you can't trap next year on this years prices......trap what animals you have in your area and what you are proficient at trapping.....and experiment learning new animals and methods and to in-better all your skills....including the fur shed......you will make almost as much money in the shed as in the field......................................

Oh and most important

Enjoy the out of doors

Way down. Best thing a guy can do right now is to sell his traps quick before the market crashes and they won't even take them for scrap. I would be willing to help you out.............

X2. Seriously, it's way too soon to tell. $5 or $50 coons, I'll be trapping.

Sales like this and the word that goes with this will have coat tails of 2-3 seasons. It will take that long for those that listen to just prices before they sell for a few years and see that prices on average are not what they heard or prices have corrected to a lower level.

I started trapping on a few farms in 1981, several years after the boom started and prices were high but already dropping. It took a few more lower price years before many quit. When 1988 came the year after the crash I was able to aquire about 30 farms as no one was out trapping until the mid 90s.

One thing in the favor of those who trap every year regardless of price is that many times when say rats go from $11 to $6 a lot of people cut back or quick. Sometimes the best years are those medium priced years after a boom when people are all mad that the prices have tanked. That happened for me in the late 1990s when I had 3 years of good catches, later caught as no one was trapping and got 4.50 to 5.50 for rats and 17 to 22 for coons. Sure nothing like the ealry 80s but 3 to 5 times my offers of the late 80s and early 90s.

Sell all of your traps and spread the word that next years prices will suck!

I trap bc I'm an outdoorsmen and I love to catch stuff, and just happen to sell fur for money. I deer hunt bc I love it not to make money. Anyone who starts trapping with solely money in mind won't last. I'll trap regardless of how much fur sells for high or low.
