I have a book titled "How To catch More Fur with Oneida Victor Traps". I do not see a publication date in the book but it does have a 1945 copyright. This book is loaded with interesting information and one of the items was titled "World Record Beaver?". The publication cites John Webster of Tie Siding, in the Laramie Mountains just north of the Medicine Bow National Forest, Wyoming, of catching a beaver that weighed 115 pounds with the skin on and 109 pounds after the skin was removed. The facts in the case are substantiated by the District Forest Ranger and the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission. Can anyone top that?

I think my biggest was 74 lbs.

However, of note, Peter Skene Ogden of the Hudson Bay company reported trapping a whole pocket of huge 100Lb+ beaver in Oregon's Ochoco mountains in the 1820's.

Chuck Pils was our DNR Furbearer biologist back in the 80s and submits that the largest beaver caught in Wisconsin weighed 110 pounds.

This may or may not be that same beaver, but whenever record beavers are talked about this picture comes up in conversation.

A year ago, I got a 73 and 76 pound beaver from the same spot. One sold for $64, the other sold for $61 at NAFA. I also got a 41 pound solid black beaver that sold for $64. So, size doesn't always dictate the value as much as color it seems.

I don't think we have those monster beavers down here. Of the thousands I've caught over the past 20+ years down here, the largest I weighed was 68 pounds.

I've heard a lot of folks talk about the 150 pound beaver hit on the road not far from where they live, but I've never seen one of them - lol...

Biggest I've ever seen was a roadkill off a piece of CLOSED Federal property:either 83 or 86, I can't recall, but it was weighed on a cert. scale.

Recall a pic in a trapping mag of a 103## from Canada.

Biggest I've caught and weighed was mid 50#s, but the farther I walk and the older I get, the heavier they seem!

I have caught many whoppers, but it was over 10 years ago when the previous drought was over ten years before. We also had normal winters and there were places that a trapper hadn,t been in many years that allowed the big ones to get big. Biggest were all pregnant females caught within 7 days of calving. The biggest were caught the first 5 years of trapping when I caught the most and conditions were ideal.

We have had severe drought up till now for the last 5-6 years. Ponds and water ways are fuller than they have been in 6 years. My pond beside my house has been 8 feet low for 5 years until recently. Now it is full.

Here with drought: I have seen worms in the beaver(never before drought) and more common infestaions in otter to the point I threw them away. Animals were skinny and fur was terrible. Worms litterally exploded at a knife cut.

It would be extremely unlikely here to catch one over 85 pounds (here) for another number of years due to the drought we had.

You do realize that if you hold something at arms length and take a picture of it with the camera in front the object will look much larger than what's behind it... so go back and take a look at the pictures in this thread done this way and those where the beaver is being held close to the person's body.
