I have always been able to find better options than Veirs. Neither one of them have ever been very personable to me when I have sold to them. I always have dry, combed, trapped fur and get the same price as the dog guys. Ropps have bought ALOT of fur that used to go to Veirs.

I was in Ropps on Monday and can guarantee they are paying more for coons than they would have too. Unless they have changed in the last year, Veirs is no competition.

Sold a few coon to Veirs last week. Eighteen for an average of 10.83. No dinks. Was not thrilled. All cleaned and brushed fur. Offered 6.00 for a clean skinned beaver that has a hanging length of 42 inches. Said he really didn't want it even though he said it was a good specimen. I will be taking the rest of my fur north.

Assuming you sold at the sale barn Victor?

Last year I sold to him, I got dang good prices on rats, mink, and beaver, but coon price was really low. I wasn't too concerned as I just ran a small line with my daughter. Different story this year and have 2 freezers full of fur.

Skinned, rinsed well to remove all dirt, blood, ect. Combed out to remove all burrs. All they needed was fleshed, windows cut out, and stretched. I know that it probably sounds stupid, but I was a little po,d when he threw them in a barrel with a bunch of dirty, bloody hides! At that point they were his property after all! Just made me wonder why I even bothered. Rats were 8 bucks straight run skinned. One small otter 35 dollars. I sell a few hides during the season to pay for gas, and supplies. Keeps the peace at home LOL. I,m not bashing Veirs. I know he has overhead, and is taking a risk. I had the right to say no. The coon prices broke down like this.
3 @ $5 each
9 @ $10 each
6 @ $15 each

Where are you at in southern Iowa? I sold to the guy in corning this year and I am impressed with his prices and he is a heck of a nice guy. I was completely happy with my averages on everything!

I've sold alot of fur to Viers over the years, but decided to take a load to Ropps this year.I was more than happy with his prices, plus it's nice to be able to pick up a little trapping supplies while there.I think I'll probably be giving them my business from now on.

Sold to Veirs today. I would have liked to have gotten more but,

9 Coons,
2 SML dinks @ $2
4 - LRG @ $6
2 - 3X @ $12,
and 1 - 4X @ $18

3 Yotes, @ $15 each
2 Foxes, @ $25 each

Coons only averaged $7.78 apiece. Does that suck or what? The 2 small ones really cost me! I'll be letting the babies go next time around!

Ropps is the better choice of the two. I've sold to both and have never been impressed with Veirs. Just my opinion.

DO NOT SELL TO VEIRS unless you want less money than nearly every other buyer is paying. Viers is notoriously low, every year. If it is put up then take it to the nearest NAFA depot and send it the the next auction. If you NEED the money now then sell to Groeny. I got bit by Viers once before and never again.
