Actually, I feel a little sad for young hunters who bag big racks like that early on. They don't get to fully appreciate just how special that moment is. Just like taking a new golfer out and they hit a hole-in-one by the front nine. All the older guys congratulate them in disbelief... but the new golfer just shrugs and says, "well, I teed up and hit the ball solid with my 5-iron. Pretty much simple as that for an ace in this game. Can't wait to do it again... maybe on the back nine today once we finish this round"

Anyone who has ever golfed knows exactly what that means smile

I disagree austinp. I killed a good one when I was 15. 3rd deer with a bow. If anything it has had me strive to hunt more, I was already hooked before, definitely after. If you are sad for him then you are just jealous, why turn something great into a neg. Congrats kid on an awesome deer!

No I'm not jealous, I'm 100% indifferent as to who else kills what.

Yes it is an awesome deer, hearty congrats to him is stating the obvious. My analogy to a first-time golfer's ace or a rookie NFL QB SuperBowl win remains as stated. That's my opinion and I am most welcome to it smile

Shame on you Kat-Trapper for calling Austinp "Jealous". I actually agree with Austinp and have said it many times myself, when a young hunter gets this lucky very early in his or her career, hunting may be a disappointment from now on. Despite your comment to Autsinp I would like to congratulate you on taking that monster buck and thank you for sharing your photo. I enjoy reading the stories and seeing the photos. It's bucks like this that make most hunters salivate and keeps hunting exciting. As for the Jealousy, I would only be Jealous if you do it repeatedly over and over again. That would certainly fetch you that Jealousy attention that you so desire.
Good hunting to all!

It happened to my brother. His first deer was a 180 inch white tail when he was 14 years old. He hunted thru his high school, years but didn't try very hard and now doesn't hunt at all.
This young man sure has a reason to be proud of himself. That's a great buck!

WOW way to there lil hunter!
I feel sorry for that lil'hunter too.
Didn't have the latest camo on and most likely didn't have a chance to read
10 thousand articles on "How to kill a buck"
He didn't have time to develop the greed and jealousy factors either.
Nope the poor kid went out and simply shot the biggest dang deer ever almost!
I'll bet from now on that lil hunter just shoots does to keep the herd healthy.
smile
Kudos Kid!

The youth hunter was 12 years old. He still watches cartoons on weekends. Statistical odds are he will never shoot at or even see another deer like that in this lifetime, let alone several lifetimes. Mathematical fact.

He is too young to really appreciate the magnitude of that accomplishment. Not all hunters or trappers or fishermen are gripped by greed and jealousy. Many of us hunt with inexpensive equipment, old clothing and no gadgetry. Some of us have book bucks on our walls we have no interest in entering. Some of us never in our lives enter big-deer contests.

Nice deer for the young hunter there, nobody disputed that fact. If he were older with a few housand hours afield in his life, he would undoubtedly appreciate it with a different depth of understanding. Much like John Elway with his final two SB appearances. Same analogy smile

When I first started bow hunting got one the first night. I was definately discouraged the next year when I never got a shot even, but I didn't quit... now I just happy to see one not about shooting anymore. Although I love to take a shot when the opportunity presents itself. I agree that i would not want to shoot one that big my first year prolly never beat it. Congrats to that kid by the way!

I'm 52 ccoyote and just shot my first deer (a doe) with a bow a month ago. Only been bow hunting consistently for the past 4 years. I certainly put in a ton of time to get that deer as I'm able to hunt a couple of hours most every day during the week and a bunch on the weekends. I could definately understand where too much success right away could take a bit away from the future.
