Yes, when you cut one in half, from top to bottom make sure it doent have gills or have what looks like a mushroom inside it. It should be solid and white. As they age the will start to change color inside.

I dont like them! The taist and texture are both not for me. But a lot of others love them. Good luck and be safe. If in doubt dont eat it!

don't worry over the smart ones. catch the dumb ones, they pay the same.

i can do it because i dont know that i cant.

you can eat them raw,,,,,,,,but i like to cut them in slices,,,,,,like a loaf of bread......then take the slices, dip in egg and bread crumbs and fry til golden brown.

I dip in egg and fry, but then pour maple syrup on them and eat as you would pancakes.

Check them for bugs and or maggots. Those critters love to get into them. My brother and I was in the woods yesterday and he picked one that was about 5 lbs. Didn't pay any attention to see if it had any holes in the bottom of it when he picked it. Once he got it home , it had loads of maggot channels and maggots in the darn thing. The inside of it was a real nice white color, so, it didn't look old.
