On discovery last night,
Previews showed a wolverine in a foothold, and another guy setting an "Alaskan made"
trap for a problematic wolf,,

No thread started on it yet ?

i caught it. The wolverine is in the next episode im pretty sure. The problem wolf is lurking around the town and stealing the dried fish, which is hung up out side for some reason. So far it's better then mountain men but seems a little played up also, as with any tv show. I like it more though.

I saw it and it was OK. I wonder how many of those reality shows are spiced up to maximize drama making them more viewer addicting. For instance, Hardcore Pawn. Just about every person going into that pawn shop gets thrown out. Really! Who would really want to own a business that causes so much stress? Then you have the old man and his two kids constantly fighting to see who is at the top of the chain. If it were real, life expectancy in that store couldn't be much over 40!

Yeah, I did!----Lots of silly stuff, but they showed things that most don't. The upcoming show seems to have some pretty graphic trapping footage, such as a wolverine jumping around in a trap and someone trying to club it with a stick they picked up from the area. I can't imagine doing that with a $350-$500 animal. The guy filling the wood order for the city water supply "had to" get all ten cords that day or the water supply would freeze up. Just little things to make it more intense. All in all, it's entertainment.

I have never seen a better demonstration of how NOT to fell a tree...Horrible chainsaw work...If that saw ever kicked back with that kid pushing on the tree, it would have literally cut him in two...

Thanks ADC,, I see the subjects already had its share of beat-down,
I must have missed the 1st episode, shows ya how often I turn to the TV for entertainment,,

I will say that Im sick of the drama, somebody needs to be fired, and new staff brought in,
not too many years ago, I turned on Discovery,TLC,History channel, and they ACTUALLY had a program
on that you could learn something from, now its just ALL about the drama,,what a bunch of carp.....

I see even the Scy-Fi (SP?) channel (which I never watched) has a reality-type show about people that hoard
science-fiction-related stuff , like comic books or transformers toys and stuff,,
Up until this point I could always rely on it to have stupid C-grade movie productions, like giant houseflys
and genetically altered giant spiders, and stuff like that ..

What has this world come to ?

I noticed that too...

Pushing on a 50-foot tree, from 5-foot off the ground, standing inches away from a running saw....

Do they not have ROPE up there ??

To go a step further, the show Repo Men is as fake as pro wrestling. The people on there are all actors; it even says so in the credits. I know a real repo man who told me the drama on there is real rare; the real thing isn't nearly as exciting. But, if it wasn't, nobody would watch it. I guess I'm nobody because about 10 minutes of it once was all I could stomach. About the only reality show I much care for is American Pickers and American Hoggers.

The preview shows him hitting the trap. I'm guessing to attempt to release the wolverine.

I saw part of the show and I didn't know wolfs will come into town like coyotes do, and them when busted they still come back. That's a dumb wolf.

I did not see the part where a 50 foot tree was pushed with one hand while cutting the tree with the other, that isn’t unusual for a sawhand. It all depends on how much the tree is leaning and which side most of the limbs and heaviest is on. When we walk up to take down a tree the first thing we look at is which way the tree is leaning and what side has most limbs/heaviest limbs. It is easy to push over a tree like that. I know because I was a logger at one time, logged and chipped 25 inch trees for Hercules Inc. at the time of Hattiesburg Mississippi, Operated a Cat 518Skidder with Esco grapples on the back and a 45 ton hydraulic winch, cut my share of pulp wood, firewood and logs privately too.

You might not know but there's a way to make a tree spin around and fall opposite the heavy side, it all depends on where the cuts are made, not every tree but some trees may seems impossible to throw but they can be by the right man with the saw. I’ve seen it done with my own eyes.

I grab the animals by the neck and open the trap, that is how I do it. Why hitting the trap? Then I put them alive in my car, they just crawl under the seat. I only do that with foxes that I don't want to kill, they are for research.

Tony, not to be rude or anything, but if you did not see the segment where the guy was cutting the tree, perhaps you should not comment on it. Your more or less defending the guy would be laughable if the moron was not endangering a young kid’s life. Not to mention showing it on TV so maybe others might try it when they are cutting down trees with NO idea at all of what they are doing. Watch the segment Tony, and see if you want to stand by your post...My guess is, if you really have any training in silvaculture/forest practices, you'll wish the segment never aired!!!

I'd enjoy seeing someone do this with a wolverine. I believe they would be more difficult to deal with than a fox.
