my orders are filled on skunk cabbage for this season. It never was very high this year. I think the top price was around 5-6 bucks early on and then it went down to 4 bucks.

Never dug it but the root looks like it would be really big (heavy?).

Do you have to cut it up to dry it? I've heard they use it for asthma meds?

here in western PA you could dig more than you would ever want to. i know places where there are acers of it.

don't worry over the smart ones. catch the dumb ones, they pay the same.

i can do it because i dont know that i cant.

You might find somebody in the east looking for some. I can't sell anymore this year. It will be fairly cheap. probably 4 bucks or less a lb.

Just got back thru the high water from the gun club.
Had to check the 4,000 trout at the hatchery and low and behold
the up stream end of the hatchery's channels has been re-routed
and has wiped out over two hundred skunk cabage plants.
They are all setting high and dry on the field archery range.
Is it to late in the year to dry them and should I hold them for next
season to sell?
Thanks!!

if they are sitting right out in the open,i would pick them up and dry them so they are ready to sell in the spring when the market is highest and the orders aren't filled yet.i have dug tons and tons and am here to tell you it is not an easy root to dig because all your weigght is in the taproot which will usually be up to two feet down.i dig all mine on sandy river corners where the digging is easiest.i won't sell dry for less than 6 dollars a dry pound and have gotten 8 one year.timing of the sale is everything in medicinals and if you don't have it you can't sell it.i wish i had dug my bloodroot this year instead of last year, but you never know when a market goes high.just my opinion, don wolf can always give a good idea and their are several buyers in P.A. once they know who you are and that your serious it becomes much easier.
