I use a Leupold vari x III 1.5x5 on almost all my rifles. I made a 275 yard shot on a wolf one time at 1.5 with the .375.

I have had several Burris compacts over the years and been happy with them. Started my boys on them in 3x9 and they are still kicking around one is currently on my AR. I also have a straight 4 power that was on a bolt 223 for many years and is now on the 10/22

Leupold also makes a compact model that I really like. They also make a VX-3 2.5x8x36 that is short and I have them on three of my rifles. I don't shoot over 300 yards at game and 8 power is plenty for shooting that far.
