Ok, a mole is kicking my butt. The bugger has embarassed me for a couple weeks. He plows through...under...around..and every which way through no mole trap. He has snuck under the out of sight trap too. I can tell from the tunnelling that it is not a star nosed mole...
Any ideas? I am starting to think that it is a mutant that is too large for the no mole trap....but I can not seem to even catch him by the nose.

I'm helping a neighbor...as the moles at the world headquarters and training center roam free. No pay on this one...but maybe I can recover my pride? I should name this mutant...any good ideas for a name? Cuss words come to mind...but there must be better...

I tried that trick. The bugger still set off the traps. Could he be pushing that much dirt ahead of him to set off the no-mole? Then, he digs under the out-of-sight...he has done this twice...so maybe I didn't set them perfectly. I might switch all to out-of-sight and be done with it (I hope). ugh...

I have had that problem when the ground is very dry. The dam I build falls apart and the ground doesn't hold the legs of the outasite firm enough. I usually water at least the trap site heavily and use the older victor spears as the long legs seem to anchor the trap firm enough so when he pushes the trip pan moves not the trap and walla hopfully. I also believe using liquid grub from on target or underground from pro-line underthe trip pan will cause the mole to work the trap area not just attempt to pass through increasing your chances of busting him. It is amazing to me that this industry has made catching a varmit like thatngive you the same feeling you get when you take a big buck or walleye. I'm starting to miss those fish and hunting. After you get him take your grand child or children fishing.
Sleep'n with an animal..I can help. Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water Your Friend, Paul Brooker

Good point. The ground has been dry. We are getting a good rain....so we will see what tomorrow holds. He passes through my traps daily. I just need him to make 1 mistake.

You say he's tunneling "under" the trap. Does that mean he's going deep, or just pushing the trap up? If he's pushing, place a brick on its side 18" or so from the OOS, lay a scrap board spanning the trap and brick, then place a couple more bricks or other weight on the board close to the OOS. This should keep him from nudging the trap upward in those dry sets. I know, it's a lotta work, but I've used it before on The Last One.
And, obviously, set a hair trigger (pinched pan, beveled bail, filed lip.)
Four boxes keep us free: the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

I think he is diving deep. I have tried the no mole upside down...no luck.

I must be going after his second cousin. A pocket gopher. The customer isn't Helping by pouring boiling vinegar , boiling water, and poison down all my sets. The [Please excuse my language... I'm an idiot] thing would have been dead by now if he will just leave the sets alone.

The little bugger finally made a mistake in a out-of-sight with a very sensitive set. It was a eastern mole, with super-trap-evading powers.
