I prefer more effective tactics with live gizzard shad or blueback herring under a balloon or free lined,,,

BUT

I have had some success casting with a 6" Sassy Shad or 8" Zara Spooks

Any chance you are heading to my old stomping grounds of Raystown Lake?

I've tried it, in a freshwater lake with varying underwater structure/depths, I'm thinkin it could get expensive quick, I see your from blair county so I guessin your gonna deposit some umbrella rigs in the same spot as me.

The bite at Raystown on fish over 5 lb. has been absolutely horrible this year, its been getting a little better the last few weeks but it was so bad some of the guides were cancleling trips. 3 day tourneys with 30 boats weighing 6 or 8 fish total.

I grew up running all over Tussey Mountain area from about '65-'81 on weekends. My dad was from Six Mile Run/Riddlesburg area on the Raystown Branch of the Juniata......BEFORE there ever was Raystown Lake. Caught stringers of trout on Trough Creek and many bass outta the river. Loved wading that river in summer and taking a sporadic dip to cool off.

We lived about 2.5 hrs South in Central MD.........Yep I'm a Terp down in Tarheel--Blue Devil--Wolfpack Country........what a mess!

I have many cousins in the Bedford, Everett area and also State College. Those boys are all optometrists or opthamologists.

We go up every few yrs. I sure miss that beautiful area and all the snow........man we sure did some great sledding back in those days.....over a mile without stopping, down my cousins driveway, all the way to town.

In the salt, we use them quite a bit from Rockfish to White Marlin.

Best time for using them for Rock fish is September/October when we get a good Noreaster' and a herring run.

They do a lot of it in the Chesapeake Bay, MD and VA... I'm sure there are some YOUTUBE clips showing it being done there. I'm a rigged eel nightime "jetty jockey" so don't know much about trolling...

We pull umbrellas alot in the Chesapeake. Umbrellas (with either auger tailed grubs, bucktails, storms, electric chicken) Mojos, Parachutes, Stectch 25's & Tomics also see a bunch of action. Late season November-December tends to be better down our way. That's when the bigger fish show up.
